Changsha Meixihu International Culture And Arts Centre
The Changsha Meixihu International Culture and Arts Centre (Chinese: 梅溪湖國際文化藝術中心) is a cultural complex located in the Meixihu subdistrict of Changsha, Hunan, China. It was completed in 2019. The complex was designed by British architectural firm Zaha Hadid Architects. Design The complex contains three separate cultural institutions: a theatre, a contemporary art museum (MICA), and a multi-purpose venue. It has a total floor area of 115,000 square metres. The design of the complex is characteristic of Zaha Hadid Architect's neo-futurist style. The exterior of the buildings are dominated by sweeping white-tiled curves. The theatre, known as the Grand Theatre, is the largest building in the complex. It provides all front-of-house functions in lobbies, bars, and hospitality suites, as well as ancillary functions including administration offices, rehearsal studios, backstage logistics, wardrobe, and dressing rooms. Zaha Hadid
Dame Zaha Mohammad Hadid ( ar, زها حديد ''Zahā Ḥadīd''; 31 October 1950 – 31 March 2016) was an Iraqi-British architect, artist and designer, recognised as a major figure in architecture of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Born in Baghdad, Iraq, Hadid studied mathematics as an undergraduate and then enrolled at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in 1972. In search of an alternative system to traditional architectural drawing, and influenced by Suprematism and the Russian avant-garde, Hadid adopted painting as a design tool and abstraction as an investigative principle to "reinvestigate the aborted and untested experiments of Modernism ..to unveil new fields of building." Meixihu
Meixihu Subdistrict () is a subdistrict of Yuelu District in Changsha, Hunan, China. It was formed from a part of Tianding Township () in April 2007. The subdistrict has an area of with more than households of 29,359 and a permanent residential population of about 20,000 (as of 2017). As of 2017, the subdistrict has two villages and six communities under its jurisdiction. Its seat is Jiashun Community (). The subdistrict is the home and the core zone of Xiangjiang New Area. Meixihu is the key area of the pilot zone development in the west of Xiang river. Meixihu, which means "Meixi Lake", is in Xiangjiang new district, Changsha, Hunan province, between the second and third ring roads. Meixi Lake Park () is a public, urban park in Yuelu District of Changsha, Hunan, China. Covering an area of , the park was established in 2012 and opened to the public in 2016. The Changsha Metro (officially ; also called ) is a rapid transit system in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan province in China. The first operational line, Line 2, commenced service on April 29, 2014, making Changsha the 18th city in mainland China to open a rapid transit system. Lines in operation Line 1 Line 1 construction began in 2010 and was opened on June 28, 2016. Line 1 has a line length of with 20 stations, of which 1 is elevated and 19 are underground.
