Legislative Yuan
The Legislative Yuan is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of China (Taiwan) located in Taipei. The Legislative Yuan is composed of 113 members, who are directly elected for 4-year terms by people of the Taiwan Area through a parallel voting system. Originally located in Nanking, the Legislative Yuan, along with the National Assembly (electoral college) and the Control Yuan (upper house), formed the tricameral parliament under the original 1947 Constitution. The Legislative Yuan previously had 759 members representing each constituencies of all provinces, municipalities, Tibet, Outer Mongolia and various professions. Until democratization, the Republic of China was an authoritarian state under Dang Guo, the Legislative Yuan had alternatively been characterized as a rubber stamp for the then-ruling regime of the Kuomintang. Puxin, Changhua
Puxin Township (), also written Pusin, is a rural township in Changhua County, Taiwan. It has a population of 34,788 and an area of 20.9526 square kilometres. Demographics As of 2016, Puxin had 10,488 households and a total population of 34,788, of which 17,945 were male and 16,843 female. 2008 Taiwan Legislative Election
The 2008 Taiwanese legislative election was held on 12 January 2008 for members of the Legislative Yuan. It was the first Legislative Yuan election after the constitutional amendments of 2005, which extended term length from three to four years, reduced seat count from 225 to 113, and introduced the current electoral system. The results gave the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Pan-Blue Coalition a supermajority (86 of the 113 seats) in the legislature, handing a heavy defeat to then-President Chen Shui-bian's Democratic Progressive Party, which won the remaining 27 seats only. The junior partner in the Pan-Green Coalition, the Taiwan Solidarity Union, won no seats. Two transitional justice referendums, both of which failed to pass due to low turnout, were held at the same time. Yuanlin, Changhua
Yuanlin (Hokkien POJ: ''Oân-lîm'') is a county-administered city in eastern Changhua County, Taiwan. It is the second largest settlement in the county, after the county seat of Changhua City. History The land around Yuanlin was cleared of trees and bushes, and fitted for cultivation since the Yongzheng era of the Qing dynasty (1723–1735). It was well developed about the 16th year of the Qianlong era. At first, people cut down the surrounding forests to build their houses. Gradually, only the round woodland was left, and the town was named (), meaning "the round woodland." Later the characters were changed to (Yuanlin). Yuanlin produces different kinds of fruits, and succade (fruit cooked in sugar syrup and encrusted with a sugar crystals) is one of its specialties. Ershui, Changhua
Ershui Township () is a rural township in southeastern Changhua County, Taiwan. Geography Ershui is bordered on the north by Tianzhong Township, to the east by Mingjian Township in Nantou County, and to the west by Xizhou Township. Its name means, literally, "Two Waters", which is a reference to the two irrigation canals constructed in the township, 1 and 2, linking the waters from the nearby Zhuoshui River to the fertile Changhua Plain. Ershui is known for its picturesque scenery and the nearby Bagua Mountain Range, and offers many biking and hiking trails. The bulk of Ershui's population lives near its central plaza in front of the Ershui railway station, on the Western Line on the TRA's railway network. Tianzhong Township is an urban township located at eastern Changhua County, Taiwan. Its former name () and current name () make reference to the origin of the town in the center of rice paddies. Beidou, Changhua
Beidou Township () is an urban township in Changhua County, Taiwan. History Beidou was previously known as Po-tau (寶斗; ), a harbor on the branch of Zhuoshui River and engaged trading with mainland China. As the harbor was an important site of southern Changhua County in the late Qing era, the town was surrounded by fences and had defensive walls. In 1738, the first downtown street named Shezi Village was built in the southern bank of Dongluo River. In 1806, houses and fields along the downtown streets were all ruined due to the battle between immigrants from Zhangzhou and Quanzhou. In 1821, Shezi Village was rebuilt in the Baodou Village at the riverside. Geography It is located in an alluvial plain in the southeast part of the county. With an area of 19.2547 square kilometers, it is the second smallest township in the county after Xianxi Township.
