Chang Chen-yuan
Chang Chen-yuan (), also known by his English name Michael Chang, is a Taiwanese politician. He graduated from the Department of Transportation and Logistics Management at National Chiao Tung University with a doctorate and served as station master at Taipei Main Station from 1987 to 1991. Chang later successively assumed several public service posts relating to public transportation and tourism. Such positions included leading the tourism division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, a stint as director of the Southwest Coast National Scenic Area, and within Tainan City Government as municipal Bureau of Transportation director and the city's deputy mayor under William Lai. Chang became political deputy minister of transportation and communications after Lai assumed the premiership. National Chiao Tung University
National Chiao Tung University (NCTU; ) was a public research university located in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Established in 1896 as Nanyang Public School by an imperial edict of the Guangxu Emperor, it was one of China's leading universities. After the Chinese Civil War, NCTU was re-established by former Chiao Tung University faculty and alumni in Taiwan in 1958. NCTU was selected by Taiwan's Ministry of Educations as one of the seven national universities focused on research in 2002. Taipei Main Station
Taipei Main Station () is a railway and metro station in Taipei, Taiwan. It is served by Taiwan High Speed Rail, the Taiwan Railways Administration, and the Taipei Metro. It is also connected through underground passageways to the terminal station of Taoyuan Airport MRT and the Taipei Bus Station. In 2017, it was the busiest station on all three rail systems, with a total of 190 million entries and exits. Southwest Coast National Scenic Area
The Southwest Coast National Scenic Area () is a national scenic area in Taiwan. The scenic area, which was set up in November 2003, covers parts of Tainan City, Chiayi County, and Yunlin County. It promotes tourist attractions on land and at sea between Taiwan Highway 17 in the east, and where the ocean reaches a depth of 20 meters. It includes the main winter habitat of the black-faced spoonbill, an endangered waterbird. In addition to ecological attractions, the scenic area has several remnants of Taiwan's now-defunct salt industry. The administrative headquarters are in Beimen District, in Tainan City. William Lai
William Lai Ching-te (; born 6 October 1959) is a Taiwanese politician who has been the Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) since 2020. He served as a legislator in the Legislative Yuan from 1999 to 2010, and as Mayor of Tainan from 2010 to 2017, prior to taking office as premier of the Republic of China. On 24 November 2018, he announced his intention to resign from the premiership after the Democratic Progressive Party suffered a major defeat in local elections, and left office on 14 January 2019 after the swearing-in of his successor Su Tseng-chang. 2018 Yilan Train Derailment
On 21 October 2018, a passenger train derailed in Yilan County, Taiwan, killing 18 people and injuring 187. At the time, it was Taiwan's deadliest rail accident since a collision near Miaoli in 1991 that killed 30 people.
