Anna Chandy
Justice Anna Chandy (1905–1996), also known as Anna Chandi, was the first female judge (1937) and then High Court judge (1959) in India. She was, in fact, one of the first female judges in the British Empire next to Emily Murphy. Life Anna Chandy was born in 1905, in the erstwhile kingdom of Travancore and raised in Trivandrum. She was an Anglican Syrian Christian who embraced Catholicism, in later life. After obtaining a post-graduate degree in 1926, she then became the first woman in her state to get a law degree. She was called to the Bar and practiced as a barrister from 1929 onwards. In 1931-32, she contested elections to the legislative assembly of Travancore princely state and was elected; she served as a legislator during the period 1932-34. In 1937, Chandy was appointed as a munsif in Travancore by the Maharaja upon the advise of his Dewan (First Minister), Sir C.P. Ramaswami Iyer. This made Chandy the first female judge in India. Arjun Chandy is an Indo-american singer, arranger, studio vocalist and vocal group coach from Dallas, Texas. Career Chandy is from a family of artists. His infant years were spent heavily immersed in Indian classical music. He completed his vocal arangetram in Dallas and was accompanied by Shri Poovalur Sriji on the Mridangam and Shri Ramana Indrakumar on the Ghatam. Jacob Chandy
Jacob Chandy (23 January 1910 – 23 June 2007) was an Indian neurosurgeon and teacher of medical sciences. As the first neurosurgeon in India, he is widely regarded as the father of modern neurosurgery in India. In 1964, the Government of India honoured him with their third highest civilian award, Padmabhushan, for his services in the fields of neurosurgery and medical education. Nomita Chandy
Nomita Chandy was an Indian social worker from Bangalore, known for her services towards the rehabilitation of destitute children. She attended Lawrence School, Lovedale. Chandy was secretary of Ashraya, a non-governmental organization, working mainly towards the rehabilitation to destitute children. Under the aegis of the organization, Chandy and her colleagues were successful in arranging for the legal adoption of 2000 children within the country and 1000 outside. The organization also runs a school, ''Neelbagh'', and a safe crèche for the children of migrant workers and takes care of eight visually impaired children at the child care centre. The Government of India honored Nomita Chandy in 2011, with the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri. Chandy died in May 2015 at Bengaluru. Oommen Chandy
Oommen Chandy, , (born 31 October 1943) is an Indian politician and statesman who served as the Chief Minister of Kerala for two terms, from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2011 to 2016. He was also Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly from 2006 to 2011. He represents Puthuppally constituency as MLA in the State Assembly since 1970. He is the longest serving MLA in the Kerala Legislative Assembly and the only Indian Chief Minister to achieve award for public service from United Nations. Palliveettil Chandy also known as Parambil Chandy (''Alexander de Campo'' in Portuguese) was a bishop of the Catholic Saint Thomas Christians. He is also the first known native Indian bishop. He was the bishop of the East Syriac Rite (Chaldaean) faction (also known as the ''Palayakūttukar'', or "Old Allegiance") after the Coonan Cross Oath in 1653. This faction returned to full communion with the Holy See of Rome, it would later become known as the modern-day Eastern Catholic Syro-Malabar Church. Thomas Chandy
Thomas Chandy (29 October 1947 – 20 December 2019) was an Indian businessman and politician. He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (India), member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Kuttanad (State Assembly constituency), Kuttanad constituency, the transport minister of the state of Kerala, and president of the Nationalist Congress Party in Kerala. He resigned from the minister's office on 15 November 2017 after an allegation regarding his resort in Alappuzha arose. He died in Kochi on 20 December 2019 from cancer.
