''Chandralekha'' (also spelt ''Chandraleka'') is a 1948 Indian historical adventure film produced and directed by S. S. Vasan of Gemini Studios. Starring T. R. Rajakumari, M. K. Radha and Ranjan (actor), Ranjan, the film follows two brothers (Veerasimhan and Sasankan) who fight over ruling their father's kingdom and marrying the village dancer, Chandralekha. Development began during the early 1940s when, after two successive box-office hits, Vasan announced that his next film would be entitled ''Chandralekha''. However, when he launched an advertising campaign for the film he only had the name of the heroine from a storyline he had rejected. Veppathur Kittoo (one of Vasan's storyboard artists) developed a story based on a chapter of George W. M. Reynolds' novel, ''Robert Macaire: or, The French bandit in England''. Original director T. ''Chandralekha'' is a 1995 Indian Tamil language, Tamil-language romantic action film, directed by Nambirajan. Starring Vijay (actor), Vijay and Vanitha Vijayakumar in her debut, the film had music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film revolves around an orthodox Brahmin girl falls in love with a Muslim boy, Rahim, but their families don't accept it. Chandralekha Prabhudas Patel (6 December 1928 – 30 December 2006), commonly known as Chandralekha, was a dancer and choreographer from India. The niece of Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first deputy Prime Minister, she was an exponent of performances fusing Bharatanatyam with Yoga and martial arts like Kalarippayattu. She was conferred the highest award of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 2004. Chandralekha Perera ( si, චන්ද්රලේඛා පෙරේරා) (born 1 December 1961), is a popular Sri Lankan pop singer. Personal life Perera was born to a middle-class family in Kurunegala. As a child she often sang at home. At school she frequently sang and successfully took part in inter-school competitions. While studying she sang for the band "Spring Time" in Kurunegala. She met her future husband Rookantha Goonatillake in 1976 when he was a keyboard player for the band. Perera married Rookantha Goonatillake in 1989, and she has three daughters and a son.
