Chandpur-2 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2019 by Nurul Amin Ruhul of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Matlab Dakshin and Matlab Uttar upazilas. History The constituency was created in 1984 from the Comilla-20 constituency when the former Comilla District was split into three districts: Brahmanbaria, Comilla, and Chandpur. Ahead of the 2008 general election, the Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency. Ahead of the 2014 general election, the Election Commission expanded the boundaries of the constituency. Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury
Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (born 3 February 1948) is a senior Bangladesh Awami League politician who served as a Member of parliament from Chandpur-2 constituency and a minister of several ministries. In 19 November 2021 he nominated for Bangladesh Awami League Presidium member. He received the Bir Bikram, the third highest award for gallantry, for his role in the Bangladesh Liberation War. He was the general secretary for the Dhaka chapter of his party until 2016. He won the Independence Award in 2023 for his contribution to the field of independence and liberation war. Early life and education Maya was born into a Bengali Muslim Chowdhury family in the village of Mohanpur Union in Matlab Uttar, Chandpur. 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. According to political scientist Ali Riaz, the elections were not free and fair. The BBC News reported that they were marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging. Opposition leader Kamal Hossain rejected the results, calling it "farcical" and demanding fresh elections to be held under a neutral government. Matlab Uttar ( bn, মতলব উত্তর, Motlob Uttor, Matlab North) is an upazila of Chandpur District in the division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. The former Matlab Upazila was divided into two in 2000, Matlab Dakshin and Matlab Uttar. The Jatiya Sangsad ( bn, জাতীয় সংসদ, lit=National Parliament, translit=Jatiyô Sôngsôd), often referred to simply as the ''Sangsad'' or JS and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. June 1996 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 12 June 1996. The result was a victory for the Bangladesh Awami League, which won 146 of the 300 seats, beginning Sheikh Hasina's first-term as Prime Minister. Voter turnout was 74.96%, the highest to date.
