Chandiya is a 1965 Sri Lankan action movie directed by Titus Thotawatte. In the country, it was the first of its genre to not borrow from Indian cinema. Titus Thotawatte
Thotawattege Don Manuel Titus de Silva ( Sinhala:ටයිටස් තොටවත්ත), popularly as Titus Thotawatte, was a Sri Lankan director and editor who made several popular Sri Lankan action movies in the 1960s and 1970s and later developed Sinhala children's programmes. Thotawatte died on 15 October 2011 in Colombo. Early life He was born on 17 April 1927 in Colombo. He was the fourth child in a family of five children, with 3 elder brothers and one younger sister. He attended Ananda College in Colombo and studied art under J.D.A. Perera and Stanley Abeysinghe and Matara Technical College. Career Thottawatte joined Lester James Peries and Willie Blake as editor to make ''Rekava'' in 1956. It was an attempt to make a truly Sinhalese movie in contrast with the Southern Indian copies then in vogue. Thottawatte debuted as a director with ''Chandiya'' in 1965. Pattiyage Robin Steven Fernando (born 15 June 1937 – died 8 January 2022 as රොබින් ප්රනාන්දු in inhala, popularly as Robin Fernando, was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema and television as well as a stunt coordinator. Considered as one of the best stunt directors in Sinhala cinema, Fernando started his career in the 1965 film ''Chandiya'', and rose to prominence with lead roles. Dommie Jayawardena, (25 June 1927 – 28 December 1979 as :si:ඩොමී ජයවර්ධන, ඩොමී ජයවර්ධන in Sinhala language, Sinhala) was a Sri Lankan actor and singer. He achieved fame playing villainous roles including Bollywood film ''Praan''. Personal life Dommie Jayawardena was born on 25 June 1927 in Ambalangoda. He died on December 28, 1979, at the age of 52. Mary Felicia Perera (born June 7, 1944, සෝනියා දිසා) inhala, popularly as Sonia Dissanayake or known professionally as Sonia Disa, is a former actress in Sri Lankan cinema. Karunaratne Abeysekera (3 June 1930 – 20 April 1983) was one of Sri Lanka's most famous Sinhala broadcasters. He was also a poet and songwriter and was widely admired for his excellent command of Sinhala. Abeysekera wrote the lyrics to over 2,000 songs, a record for a lyricist in Sri Lanka.
