The contestants in the Irish National Final were decided by two semi-finals, where three were chosen from the first which was held on 6 February with the second being held on 20 February. The Final was held on 3 March 1968 and was broadcast on RTÉ TV in Dublin, Ireland. All three shows were hosted by Brendan O'Reilly. Pat McGuigan
Patrick (Pat) McGuigan (10 February 1935 – 27 June 1987) was an Irish singer born in Clones, County Monaghan. McGuigan, who spelled his name McGeegan for the stage, first came to prominence in Ireland when his single with the Big Four reached number 7 in the Irish charts in 1963. Five years later he was again in the national spotlight in 1968, when he competed for Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest (as Pat McGeegan) with the song Chance of a Lifetime, arriving in fourth place. The song spent one week at number-one in the Irish Singles Chart in April 1968. Subsequently, he made some albums and released many singles, but never reached the Irish top twenty again. His rendition of '' Danny Boy'' became well known. McGuigan was also a respected songwriter. His son, Barry McGuigan, was world featherweight boxing champion in 1985–1986. Brendan O'Reilly (14 May 1929 – 1 April 2001) was an Irish Selected Olympic high jumper, broadcaster, journalist, actor, singer and songwriter (best known for the 'Ballad of Michael Collins' and the Olympic song, 'Let the Nations Play'. He is best known as presenter of the long-running ''Sports Stadium''. Between 1966 and 1968, O'Reilly had the honour of commentating for Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest, as well as presenting the National Song Contest (to select Ireland's Eurovision entry) from 1966 to 1970. He was a High Jumper, studied in America at the University of Michigan, he set the Irish High Jump record and also set the Irish Javelin record. The Swarbriggs
Thomas "Tommy" Swarbrigg and John James "Jimmy" Swarbrigg are Irish music promoters and former pop musicians. As The Swarbriggs, they represented Ireland at the 1975 Eurovision Song Contest with "That's What Friends Are For". As The Swarbriggs Plus Two, with Nicola Kerr and Alma Carroll, they competed again in with " It's Nice To Be In Love Again". The brothers wrote both songs. They also scored numerous other top 20 chart hit singles in Ireland during the 1970s, including "Joanne" (a No. 1 hit in 1976), "Looking Through The Eyes Of A Beautiful Girl", "If Ma Could See Me Now", "Funny" and many more.
