Chan Chich Airstrip
Chan Chich Airstrip is an airport serving the Chan Chich Lodge and the Gallon Jug Estate in the Orange Walk District of Belize. The airport is east of the border with Guatemala. The Belize VOR-DME (Ident: BZE) is located east of the runway. Lodge access The airport is the preferred means of access to the eco-lodge created by Sir Barry Bowen in the private game park deep in the Belize rain forest, adjacent to the Rio Bravo Conservation area. Arduous tracks accessible by 4WD vehicles are the only other connections from less remote areas. Because driving to Chan Chich requires passing through private lands, access permits must be granted in advance. The airstrip also serves the wider Gallon Jug community, including the ranch, where efforts are being made to breed a strain of cattle more suited to the tropics by cross-breeding with English Hereford bloodlines. Orange Walk District is a district in the northwest of the nation of Belize, with its district capital in Orange Walk Town. VOR-DME
In radio navigation, a VOR/DME is a radio beacon that combines a VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) with a distance-measuring equipment (DME). The VOR allows the receiver to measure its bearing to or from the beacon, while the DME provides the slant distance between the receiver and the station. Together, the two measurements allow the receiver to compute a position fix. The VOR system was first introduced in the 1930s, but didn't enter significant commercial use until the early 1950s. It became much more practical with the introduction of low-cost Solid state (electronics), solid state receivers in the 1960s. DME was a modification of World War II-era navigation systems like Gee-H, and began development in 1946. Barry Bowen
Sir Barry Manfield Bowen (September 19, 1945 – February 26, 2010) was a Belizean bottling magnate and entrepreneur. His business interests included Bowen and Bowen, Ltd, which was founded by his father, and is the exclusive bottler of Coca-Cola products in Belize, as well as the Belize Brewing Company, which brews Belikin Beer. Bowen also served as a former member of the Senate of Belize and the financier of the People's United Party. In December 2007, Queen Elizabeth II knighted Bowen as a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George. Rio Bravo Conservation And Management Area
The Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area is a nature reserve located in northwestern Belize. Rio Bravo, as it is known, was established by Programme for Belize in 1988 with the purchase of 110,044 acres (44,533.2 hectares) of land from Gallon Jug Agroindustries. With logging encroachment imminent in 1989, the Nature Conservancy joined Programme for Belize to protect the land. Additional land donations from Coca-Cola Foods, Inc. Transport In Belize
Transport in Belize mostly consists of bus transportation on Belize's roads. There are some navigable waterways. Public transport Most Belizeans travel the country using public buses as their primary form of transportation. In the larger towns and cities, such as Belize City or Belmopan, there are bus terminals. In smaller places, there are bus stops. However, the most common way of catching a bus is by flagging it down on the road. On the Northern and George Price Highways, bus service is more frequent than on smaller highways and other roads. In some locations, like small towns, buses may run only once a day. Buses are classified as either Regular runs (usual prices) or Express runs (faster, for slightly higher prices). Some Belizeans prefer riding bikes due to traffic, or the time of day. Many buses are Greyhounds or school buses, although newer express buses travel the two main highways.
