Chalkida F.C.
Athletic Club Chalkis ( el, Αθλητικός Όμιλος Χαλκίς), also known as A.C. Chalkida, is an association football club based in Chalkida, Greece. The club was founded in 1967 upon the merger of Olympiakos Chalkida and Evrypos Chalkida. Its colours are black and blue and its symbol is the nymph Arethusa. Their greatest honour was winning the Beta Ethniki in 1968 and playing in the 1968–69 Alpha Ethniki. They currently play in the Group 3 of Gamma Ethniki. History Before the merger A.C. Chalkis was founded in 1967 after a merger between the biggest clubs in the city, Olympiakos Chalkida and Evrypos, who were both competing in the Greek Second Division at the time, with Olympiakos finishing 4th and Evrypos 9th. Due to a law by the regime of the Colonels which ruled Greece since April 1967, athletic clubs that were based in the same city were forced to merge with each other. Gamma Ethniki
The Gamma Ethniki ( el, Γ΄ Εθνική Ερασιτεχνική Κατηγορία, C National Amateur Division) is the third highest football league in Greece. History The Gamma Ethniki began in 1965 as an amateur championship, while in 1983 it was changed to professional. Although not literally national (it is divided into ''North'' and ''South'' groups), Football League 2 is considered as a national division. On 3 August 2010, it was announced that the division had been renamed ''Football League 2''. From season 2013–14, the football League 2 is merged by fourth division championship (Delta Ethniki) and renamed again Gamma Ethniki. The new third division will be held in six groups, with the clubs divided basis of geographical criteria, while it will return in an amateur form. 1980–81 Beta Ethniki
The 1980–81 Beta Ethniki season was 22nd edition of second tier nationwide championship of Greece. Forty teams participated in the league, divided in two groups, the ''South and the North Group''. Iraklis F.C. (Thessaloniki), Iraklis was named champion of the North Group and got promoted to the Alpha Ethniki. In the South Group Egaleo F.C., Egaleo and Rodos F.C., Rodos tied and a play-off match, that found Rodos victorious by a 1-0 scoreline, decided the team that was named champion of the South Group and got promoted to the Alpha Ethniki. On the other hand, Pelopas Kiato F.C., Pelopas Kiato, Olympiakos Neon Liosion, AO Patra and Panarkadikos F.C., Panarkadikos got relegated to the Gamma Ethniki, C National Amateur Division from the South Group.
