Román Chalbaud
Román Chalbaud (born 10 October 1931) is a Venezuelan film director and screenwriter, as well as a prominent playwright. Starting work in television after prestigious training, Chalbaud moved into making films before the industry took off in his home country, returning to theatre where he had been a great success for several years until filmmaking became a viable industry again. He has served as the president of Venezuela's leading theatre, television, and film organisations. A documentary about his life and work called ''Román en el universo de las maravillas'', produced by Argentinian filmmakers, was released on 17 March 2018 in Altamira, Caracas at the Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American Studies. Carlos Román Delgado Chalbaud Gómez (20 January 1909 – 13 November 1950) was a Venezuelan career military officer. He was the president of Venezuela from 1948 to 1950 as leader of a Military dictatorship, military junta. In 1945, he was one of the high-ranking officers who brought to power the Democratic Action (Venezuela), Democratic Action party by a coup d'état. In 1948, as a Minister of Defense, he led another 1948 Venezuelan coup d'état, military coup and lingered as the President until his assassination in Caracas. Early life Delgado Chalbaud was the son of Román Delgado Chalbaud (grandson of a French immigrant and great-grandson of Andalusian colonist) and Luisa Elena Gómez Velutini (of Corsican descent). Flor María Chalbaud Castro (3 July 1921 – 12 January 2013) was First Lady of Venezuela between 2 December 1952 and 23 January 1958 and one of the founders of the Bolivarian Ladies Society. Biography On 4 February 1945, Chalbaud married General Marcos Pérez Jiménez, and was First Lady of Venezuela during his presidency between 2 December 1952 and 23 January 1958. She was first cousin of president Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Delgado Chalbaud. During the presidency of Pérez Jiménez, she was best known in the national media for her role at official diplomatic events in which she presided or took part with the formal name "Doña Flor María Chalbaud Cardona de Pérez Jiménez".
