The Regius Chair of Public Law and the Law of Nature and Nations is a Regius Professorship at the University of Edinburgh. It was established in 1707 by Queen Anne, and was the first chair in law created at the university. History The chair was founded in 1707, the year of the union of Scotland and England, by Queen Anne, and was the university's first chair in Law. Its first occupant was Charles Erskine, who was appointed on 7 November aged only twenty-seven years, despite the Town Council's objections. Erskine later served as Lord Advocate and then Lord Justice Clerk. In 1972, Neil MacCormick was appointed to the chair. The Reid Professorship in Music was a position founded within the University of Edinburgh in 1839 using funds provided in a bequest from General John Reid. History On his death in 1807 General John Reid left a fortune of more than £50,000. Subject to the life-interest of his only daughter, who had married a Mr Robertson without his consent, he left this money to found a professorship of music in the University of Edinburgh, and to be further applied to the purchase of a library, or otherwise laid out in such a manner as the principal and professors of the university might think proper. Accordingly, in 1839, after the daughter's death, the chair of music was founded. The fund had increased by that time to about £70,000; but the university authorities largely availed themselves of the discretion given to them in the application of the money. William Fraser (historian)
Sir William N. Fraser, (18 February 1816 – 13 March 1898) was a solicitor and notable expert in ancient Scottish history, palaeography, and genealogy. Life Fraser's family came of the stock of farmers and craftsmen in The Mearns. He was born the eldest of two sons and a daughter of James Fraser (1786 – 1834), a mason, and his spouse Ann (died 1821), daughter of James Walker, tenant of the farm of Elfhill of Fetteresso, about 5 miles from Stonehaven. The couple were settled and were feuholders at Links of Arduthie. William Fraser was initially educated at a private school in Stonehaven kept by the Reverend Charles Michie, a M.A. graduate of Aberdeen's Marischal College in 1810, who spent his life teaching. It was endowed in the will of John Abercromby, 5th Baron Abercromby (1841–1924), who left instructions to establish a chair in prehistoric archaeology at the university. Will Davidson
William R. Davidson was a Scottish footballer. His regular position was as a half back. He played for Annbank and Manchester United. When Davidson joined the team in 1893, Manchester United was still known as Newton Heath Football Club and struggling to stay in Football League First Division. Davidson kicked the winning goal in one of the team's few wins in the 1893–94 season, against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 11 November 1893. His final appearance was on 1 December 1894 against Crewe Alexandra F.C., as a serious injury forced him to retire from playing football.
