''Chainsaw Kittens'' is the fourth studio album by the American alternative rock band Chainsaw Kittens. It was released in 1996 through Scratchie Records. Critical reception ''Alternative Rock'' wrote that the "glitter roots still shine through boldly, but the punk intensity has disappeared, along with most of their jangly pop melodies." The ''Chicago Tribune'' called it "one of the sleeper pop records of '96" and "arguably the career high point" for the band. Tyson Todd Meade (born September 15, 1962) is an American musician, painter, writer, teacher, and disc jockey best known as the principal singer and songwriter for pioneering alternative rock bands Defenestration and Chainsaw Kittens. Defenestration is credited in the book ''Road to Nirvana'' as one of the bands that influenced Kurt Cobain's music and Billy Corgan often credited Chainsaw Kittens as one of his favorite bands—Corgan even once wrote Meade when he was working the first Smashing Pumpkins album lauding the brilliance of Chainsaw Kittens first album, ''Violent Religion''. Chainsaw Kittens
The Chainsaw Kittens were a part of the American alternative rock scene, drawing from pop, glam rock, punk, new wave and British Invasion music. Their lyrics tackled such varied topics as religion, the Stonewall riots, Federico Fellini, Oklahoma, Erik Menendez, and Oscar Wilde. Based in Norman, Oklahoma, its name a reference to the band members' youth and "chainsaw guitar sound", the Chainsaw Kittens were active from 1989 to 2000. Scratchie Records was an independent record label founded in 1995 by James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky (ex-The Smashing Pumpkins), Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne, Ivy), Kerry Brown (ex-Catherine) and Jeremy Freeman. Initially, Scratchie was based in Chicago and had distribution through Mercury Records, but a year of legal wrangling ended the pact after Universal merged with Mercury's parent company, Polygram. The Collective were an Australian boy band consisting of members Trent Bell, Julian De Vizio, Zach Russell, Jayden Sierra and Will Singe. They were formed during the fourth season of ''The X Factor Australia'' in 2012 and finished in third place. The Collective subsequently signed with Sony Music Australia and released their debut single " Surrender", which debuted at number six on the ARIA Singles Chart.
