Chain Lightning (1922 Film)
''Chain Lightning'' is a 1922 American silent melodrama film produced and directed by Ben F. Wilson. Plot As described in a film magazine, Kentuckian Major Lee Pomeroy (MacGregor) has been obliged by financial circumstances to sell his race horse Chain Lightning, which is really the property of his daughter Peggy (Little). She comes home from school in Washington to learn that the horse has passed to the possession of Colonel George Bradley (Girard), her father's enemy. The horse is entered in an important race and Pomeroy wagers all his remaining funds on his former track star. Red Rollins (Carroll), the jockey to ride the horse, makes advances on Peggy but is repulsed. The jockey then threatens to pull the horse in the race. Peggy meets Rollins the day of the race and endeavors to dissuade him. The National Audiovisual Conservation Center, also known as the Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation, is the Library of Congress's audiovisual archive located inside Mount Pony in Culpeper, Virginia. Jack Dougherty (born Virgil Ashley Dougherty) (November 16, 1895 – May 16, 1938) was an American actor who appeared in B-movies in the 1910s, 1920s, and 1930s. He was married to actress Barbara La Marr at the time of her death. Biography Jack was born in Bowling Green, Missouri, to Roy Dougherty and Julia Ach. The family relocated to Southern California when Jack was young. He began a career as an actor in Broadway musicals in the late 1910s. In 1920, after returning from serving in France during World War I, he was signed with Metro to play Alice Lake's leading man. He and actress Barbara La Marr got married in 1923, the same year Dougherty was signed to a five-year contract at Universal. The marriage was tumultuous, and multiple separations were noted in the press. The pair were still legally wed, however, when La Marr died of tuberculosis in 1926 at the age of 29.
