Chagas Disease
Chagas disease, also known as American trypanosomiasis, is a tropical parasitic disease caused by ''Trypanosoma cruzi''. It is spread mostly by insects in the subfamily ''Triatominae'', known as "kissing bugs". The symptoms change over the course of the infection. In the early stage, symptoms are typically either not present or mild, and may include fever, swollen lymph nodes, headaches, or swelling at the site of the bite. After four to eight weeks, untreated individuals enter the chronic phase of disease, which in most cases does not result in further symptoms. Up to 45% of people with chronic infections develop heart disease 10–30 years after the initial illness, which can lead to heart failure. Dyanfres Douglas Chagas Matos (born December 30, 1987), or simply Douglas, is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Kashiwa Reysol, as a striker. Career Douglas signed for Tokushima Vortis in July 2010. He made his J2 League debut on 25 July 2010 against Tokyo Verdy. Luís Gonçalves das Chagas, Baron of Candiota (c. 1815–1894) was a Brazilian landowner, military leader and noble. Born in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil's southernmost state, Chagas was the owner of several estancias in the municipalities of Santa Maria, São Gabriel and Bagé. He fought the Ragamuffin War (1835–1845) on the Republican side. In 1865, he raised a regiment to fight for Brazil in the Paraguayan War (1864–1870). Diogo das Chagas, O.F.M. (Diogo of the Holy Wounds); (c. 1584 in Santa Cruz das Flores – c. 1661 in Angra do Heroísmo) was a Portuguese Franciscan friar and historian. He is best known as the author of ''Espelho Cristalino em Jardim de Várias Flores'', an important resource on the colonization of the islands of the central and western groups of the Portuguese archipelago of his native region of the Azores after 1640. Biography Diogo was the son of Mateus Coelho da Costa, Captain-major of the island of Flores, and his wife, Catarina de Fraga Rodovalho. Life Early life He was born António da Fonseca Soares on 25 June 1631 at Vidigueira, then in the ancient Province of Estremadura of the Kingdom of Portugal. He was the son of a Portuguese minor nobleman and judge and an Irish mother. He was enrolled at the Jesuit college in Évora for his primary studies. João Pinheiro Chagas (1 September 1863 – 28 May 1925; ) was a Portuguese politician, literary critic, propagandist, editor, and journalist.
