Cevat Yurdakul
Cevat Yurdakul (1 January 1942 – 28 September 1979) was a prosecutor and the chief of police of Adana Province, Turkey, when he was assassinated in 1979. Adana Provincial Police Chief of the period was killed as a result of an armed attack prior to the 12 September coup. Background Yurdakul was a member of the Pol-Der who called them 'People's Policemen', and as soon as he started his work, murders went out targeting certain people. Yurdakul was appointed as Adana Provincial Police Director by the Ecevit government. Adana
Adana (; ; ) is a major city in southern Turkey. It is situated on the Seyhan River, inland from the Mediterranean Sea. The administrative seat of Adana Province, Adana province, it has a population of 2.26 million. The Turkish people, or simply the Turks ( tr, Türkler), are the world's largest Turkic ethnic group; they speak various dialects of the Turkish language and form a majority in Turkey and Northern Cyprus. Adana Province ( tr, ) is a province of Turkey located in central Cilicia. With a population of 2.26 million, it is the sixth most populous province in Turkey. 1980 Turkish Coup D'état
The 1980 Turkish coup d'état ( tr, 12 Eylül Darbesi), headed by Chief of the General Staff General Kenan Evren, was the third coup d'état in the history of the Republic of Turkey, the previous having been the 1960 coup and the 1971 coup by memorandum. During the Cold War era, Turkey saw political violence (1976–1980) between far-left, far-right (Grey Wolves), Islamist militant groups, and the state. The violence saw a sharp downturn for a period after the coup, which was welcomed by some for restoring order by quickly executing 50 people and arresting 500,000 of which hundreds would die in prison.
