''Ceux du dehors'' (1981) is the third album by the Belgian RIO band Univers Zero. The title translates as "The Outsiders", which strongly alludes, among other things, to the Dark Fantasy works of HP Lovecraft. The original LP consisted of six tracks. The CD pressing adds a seventh track, "Triomphe des mouches", previously released as a one-sided single. ''Ceux du dehors'' was the first Univers Zero album without guitarist and founding member Roger Trigaux, who had left to form his own group, Present. Univers Zero
Univers Zero (also known as Univers Zéro and Univers-Zero) are an instrumental Belgium, Belgian band formed in 1974 by drummer Daniel Denis. The band is known for its dark style of progressive rock, heavily influenced by 20th-century chamber music. History In 1973, Claude Deron and Daniel Denis, both former members of Belgian Zeuhl band Arkham (which had disbanded the previous year), set up a new group, Necronomicon. By that time, apart from Deron (trumpet) and Denis (drums), the group consisted of Roger Trigaux (guitar), Guy Segers (bass guitar), Patrick Hanappier (violin) and John Van Rymenant (sax), and, later on, Vincent Motoulle (keyboards). Rock In Opposition
Rock in Opposition or RIO was a movement representing a collective of progressive bands in the late 1970s united in their opposition to the music industry that refused to recognise their music. It was initiated by English avant-rock group Henry Cow in March 1978 when they invited four mainland European groups to come to London and perform in a festival called "Rock in Opposition". History Henry Cow spent most of their last five years touring mainland Europe. There they encountered many innovative groups who were virtually unknown outside their own countries. What Henry Cow had in common with these groups was that record companies were not interested in their music. Recommended Records (RēR) is a British independent record label and distribution network founded by Chris Cutler with Nick Hobbs in March 1978. RēR features largely "Rock in Opposition" and related music, but it also distributes selected music released on other independent labels. In 1982 Cutler established November Books, the publishing wing of Recommended Records, and between 1985 and 1997, Recommended Records and November Books published ''RēR Quarterly'', a "quarterly" sound-magazine edited by Cutler. ''Heresie'' is the second album by Belgian RIO band Univers Zero released in 1979. (Reissued in 2010 as a remix with bonus track) It features heavy use of dissonance and dark, brooding and extremely complex melodies. Its title is often written as ''Hérésie'' (because in lowercase ''heresie'' like a centuries-old version of the word, whereas in another edition of the album, the spelling ''HERESIE'' looks it follows a habit of dropping accents when using uppercase, even in today's French). Present (band)
Present is a Belgian progressive rock group formed by guitarist Roger Trigaux in 1979. Biography Trigaux was a founding member of Univers Zero and participated on the first two albums. After '' Heresie'' (1979) he left Univers Zero to concentrate on his own vision and founded Present. The early lineup of Present featured fellow Univers Zero members Daniel Denis and Christian Genet playing drums and bass respectively. Present's first album, "Triskaidekiphobie", was released in 1980, and was followed by “Le Poison Qui Rend Fou" in 1985. The group toured Europe in support of both albums. In 1990, Trigaux began working with his son Reginald Trigaux (also a guitarist), as a duo, using the moniker Present C.O.D. Performance.
