Kitchener is a small town in the City of Cessnock, in the Hunter Region in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Kitchener is located 5 kilometres south of the town of Cessnock, NSW and is adjacent to Werakata National Park and the Aberdare State Forest. The town is named after Lord Kitchener, British secretary for War from July 1914. Mining history Kitchener was the location of the Aberdare Central Colliery which was developed by Caledonian Collieries Ltd during World War I. The historic mine site has been preserved as a Heritage Park (including the poppet head structure). A number of the dwellings where originally occupied by mine management. Mulbring is a village in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. At the 2016 census, Mulbring recorded a population of 597. The village is situated about 10 kilometres south of Kurri Kurri and about 1 km north of the village of Mount Vincent. The nearest major town is Cessnock which is approximately 25 km north-west of Mulbring. Mulbring is in the City of Cessnock local government area (LGA) and Northumberland County at an elevation of 47 metres above sea level. Mulbring was originally a stopping place for travellers going to and from Sydney to the Maitland and Newcastle area in the late 19th century. Mulbring was serviced by a Post Office until 2017. Kearsley is a village in the City of Cessnock, in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. Kearsley is located 5.7 kilometres south-east of the town of Cessnock, NSW and is adjacent to Werakata National Park. The village was named after William Kearsley, a prominent member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly and official in the miner's union. Pelaw Main is a hamlet a few kilometres south-west of Kurri Kurri, in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It owes its origins entirely to the colliery there of the same name. It had a population of 1,027 in 2011 Pelaw Main Colliery About 1900 the coal mining firm of J & A Brown purchased the leasehold of the proposed Stanford Greta No. 2 Colliery from the East Greta Coal Mining Company and soon afterwards changed the name of the property to Pelaw Main. Pelaw Main Colliery opened on December 28 1900, the first mine to be opened in the region. By 1901 they had driven two tunnels into the 17 foot seam of coal there. They then constructed a railway extension westwards from the terminus of the South Maitland Railway branch line at Victoria Street, Stanford Merthyr, to Pelaw Main, a distance of about one mile, which opened for traffic on 17 November 1901.
