Certified Acceptance Corporation (CAC) is a Far Hills, New Jersey third-party coin certification company started in 2007 by coin dealer John Albanese. The firm evaluates certain numismatically valuable U.S. coins already certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). Coins that CAC deems high-end for their grades receive green stickers, which usually add premiums ranging from single digit percentages to 92% or more. Coins that are definitely undergraded -- and would receive at least a green sticker in the next highest grade -- are bestowed gold stickers, which on average increase values up to 90% or more of PCGS/NGC coins already graded the next highest grade. CAC and certain dealers buy and sell CAC-certified coins via their affiliated 180-plus-member trading network, CDN Exchange. Third Party Grading (TPG) refers to coin grading & banknote grading, grading of stamps, cards, comic books, etc., authentication, attribution, and encapsulation by independent certification services. These services will, for a tiered fee, "slab" an item. Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) is an international third-party coin grading and certification service based in Sarasota, Florida. It has certified more than 50 million coins. NGC certification consists of authentication, grading, attribution, and encapsulation in clear plastic holders. NGC is a subsidiary of Certified Collectibles Group (CCG), which owns six collectible certification services and is in turn owned by Blackstone, a multibillion dollar New York City hedge fund. ''The Coin Collector's Survival Manual'' is a coin collecting and investing reference book authored by Scott A. Travers that was first published by Arco, a Prentice-Hall imprint, in July 1984 simultaneously in hardcover and paper editions. Its then 22-year-old author bluntly detailed the coin industry's perils and pitfalls in buying, selling and storing valuable coins based on his experiences as a dealer. The book has since been updated and published in multiple editions. In 1988, when its second edition was published by Prentice Hall Trade, a division of Simon & Schuster, it was considered an important part of the coin literature. Sheldon Scale
The Sheldon Coin Grading Scale is a 70-point coin grading scale used in the numismatic assessment of a coin's quality. The American Numismatic Association based its ''Official ANA Grading Standards'' in large part on the Sheldon scale. The scale was created by William Herbert Sheldon. Original Sheldon Scale (1949) In 1949, the original scale was first presented in "Dr. William H. Sheldon's Early American Cents" titled "A Quantitative Scale for condition" as a way to grade Large cents. The scale is known today as the Sheldon scale.
