Cerrillos, Uruguay
Cerrillos or Los Cerrillos is a very small city in the west part of the Canelones Department of southern Uruguay. Cerrillos is also the name of the municipality to which the city belongs. It was created on 15 March 2010 by the Act of Ley Nº 18.653. It comprises the electoral districts CCA and CEB of Canelones department. The localities Campo Militar, SofÃa Santos, Las Brujas and Parador Tajes are parts of this municipality. Geography Location The city is located on the intersection of Route 36 with Route 46, about southwest of the city of Canelones and north west of the centre of Montevideo. History It was founded on 3 August 1896. On 5 July 1907, its status was elevated to "Pueblo" (village) by the Act of Ley N° 3.188, and on 23 October 1958 to "Villa" by the Act of Ley N° 12.581. Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The '' Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. When the First Constitution was signed in 1830, there were nine departments. Uruguay's calling code is +598. Since 2010, national long distance calling was eliminated, thus there are no area codes in each city. Landline telephony ANTEL (Spanish abbreviation for National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's state-owned company for telecommunications. Previously in Uruguay, phone numbers used to have between 4 and 7 digits. To make a local phone call, you only had to dial those digits. To make a call between two cities from different departments, you had to dial zero, plus area code, plus phone number. As from August 29, 2010, all phone numbers have 8 digits, according to the new National Numbering Plan. Zero prior to area code was eliminated. The Departamento de Canelones ( es, Departamento de Canelones; ) is one of the 19 uruguayan departments. With an area of and 518,154 inhabitants, it is located in the south of Uruguay. Its capital is Canelones. Geography and climate Neighbouring departments are Maldonado and Lavalleja to the East, Florida to the North, San José to the West, and Montevideo to the South. Canelones () is the capital of the department of Canelones in Uruguay. Its name is derived from a species of cinnamon, which is called "canelón", growing along the banks of the homonymous river. Since 2010, the city is also the seat of the municipality of Canelones. Location The city is located on Route 5 about North of Montevideo and on its intersection with Route 64.
