Cereal is a hamlet within Special Area No. 3 in central Alberta, Canada. It is approximately east of Drumheller. It was named after the post office that was established in the area in 1910. The name of the post office alluded to grain fields near the community. Cereal held village status prior to 2021. History Cereal incorporated as a village on August 19, 1914. It relinquished its village status on January 1, 2021 when it dissolved to become a hamlet under the jurisdiction of Special Area No. 3. Demographics In the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Cereal recorded a population of 111 living in 59 of its 63 total private dwellings, a change from its 2011 population of 134. Canadian Women's Amateur
The Canadian Women's Amateur is Canada's annual national amateur golf tournament for women. It is open to women from all countries and is played at a different course each year. History The first championship was held from October 14 to 17, 1901 at Royal Montreal Golf Club. The 50 or so entries played 18 holes of stroke play on the first afternoon, after which the leading eight ladies played three rounds of 18-hole match play on the following three days. Local member Lily Young had the best score on the first day, 99. Scorers of 107 and better reached the quarter-finals. Consolation events were organised for those not in the leading eight. Young reached the final with two comfortable wins where she met Mabel Thomson, of New Brunswick, who only won her semi-final at the 20th hole. Young won the final 2&1. British Ladies Amateur
The Women's Amateur Championship, previously known as the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship, was founded in 1893 by the Ladies' Golf Union. It is organised by The R&A, which merged with the Ladies' Golf Union in 2017. Until the dawn of the professional era in 1976, it was the most important golf tournament for women in Great Britain, and attracted players from continental Europe, North America, and the rest of the world. Marlene Streit
Marlene Stewart Streit, (born March 9, 1934) is a Canadian amateur golfer, and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. She was born in Cereal, Alberta. She learned golf from Gordon McInnis Sr. at the Lookout Point Golf Club in Fonthill, Ontario. She is the most successful Canadian amateur female golfer, and the only golfer in history to have won the Australian, British, Canadian and U.S. Women's Amateurs. She graduated from Rollins College in 1956 and won the national individual intercollegiate golf championship that same year. Streit was a member of the Canadian team at the Espirito Santo Trophy in 1966, 1970, 1972, and 1984. She owns a home in Wellington, Florida. She won the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award for best Canadian female athlete for the fifth time in 1963. Debby Carlson (born April 5, 1957) is a former Liberal MLA in Alberta, who represented the electoral district of Edmonton Ellerslie from 1993 to 2004. Carlson won her seat in southeast Edmonton's Ellerslie area, and held it in the 1993, 1997, and 2001 elections until 2004 when she won a highly contested federal Liberal Party nomination in the Edmonton Strathcona riding. The 2016 Canadian census was an enumeration of Canadian residents, which counted a population of 35,151,728, a change from its 2011 population of 33,476,688.
