Cerdo (mythology)
In Greek mythology, Cerdo (Ancient Greek: Κερδοῦς means 'gain, profit' or 'the wily one' or 'weasel, vixen') was the nymph-wife of King Phoroneus of Argos and mother of Apis and Niobe. Otherwise, the consort of Phoroneus was called either Cinna, or Teledice (or Laodice) also a nymph, or Perimede, or Peitho and Europe. According to Graves, Cerdo (‘gain or ‘art’) is one of Demeter's titles; it was applied to her as weasel, or vixen, for both are considered prophetic animals. Cerdo (gnostic)
Cerdo ( grc-gre, Κέρδων) was a Syrian Gnostic who was deemed a heretic by the Early Church around the time of his teaching, circa 138 AD. Cerdo started out as a follower of Simon Magus, like Basilides and Saturninus, and taught at about the same time as Valentinus and Marcion. According to Irenaeus, he was a contemporary of the Roman bishop Hyginus, residing in Rome as a prominent member of the Church until his forced expulsion therefrom. He taught that there were two gods, one that demanded obedience while the other was good and merciful. According to Cerdo, the former was the God of the Old Testament who had created the world. He also said that the latter God was superior but that he was only known through his son, Jesus. Like later Gnostics, he was a docetist who rejected the bodily resurrection of the dead. Kedron Of Alexandria
Kedron of Alexandria, also called Kedronos, was the 4th Patriarch of Alexandria. When the priest and Bishops who served in the country learned that the Bishop Avilius, Patriarch of Alexandria had died, they gathered in Alexandria to consult with the Christian people there, and elected Kedronos as successor. It was said that he was among those who had been baptized by Saint Mark, and he was enthroned Patriarch in Babab (October), in 96 AD, during the reign of the Emperor Nerva. Kedron was arrested and martyred in the persecution under the Emperor Trajan. It was said that the reason for the arrest was that one of the Roman governors had said to him, “Why do you not have our gods partake with your God and continue to worship him?" So he answered, “Because we do not prostrate before any other.” His martyrdom took place on the 21st of Paoni (28 June), in 106 AD. Kedron was known as chaste and virtuous.
