Century House, also known as Brick House and Beauregard's Headquarters, is a historic plantation house located near Ridgeway, Fairfield County, South Carolina. It was built about 1853, and is a large, two-story brick house in the Greek Revival style. It features double-tiered, balustraded piazzas. During the American Civil War, Century House entertained and sheltered many refugees from Low Country South Carolina and Georgia and also served as the headquarters for General P. G. T. Beauregard and his staff when Columbia was evacuated upon the approach of Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman’s Army in 1865. Century House, London
Century House, London is a 22-storey building located at 100 Westminster Bridge Road in London. The building was designed by P. M. Devereux and constructed between 1959 and 1964. It became the home of the Secret Intelligence Service following their move from 54 Broadway in 1964. Though the location of their Broadway headquarters was classified information, ''The Daily Telegraph'' reported that it was "London's worst-kept secret, known only to every taxi driver, tourist guide and KGB agent". After 21 years in service as the headquarters of SIS, Century House was described as "irredeemably insecure" in a 1985 National Audit Office (NAO) report with several security concerns raised. Chief among those concerns was that the building was made largely of glass, and had a petrol station at its base. Century House (Manchester)
Two St Peter's Square is a high-rise office building in St Peter's Square, Manchester, St. Peter's Square, Manchester, England. Designed by SimpsonHaugh and Partners, the scheme was controversial as it involved the demolition of a 1930s Art Deco but unlisted building. Century House The site of Two St Peter's Square was previously occupied by four buildings: Century House, Sussex House, Bennett House and Clarendon House. Century House was built in 1934 for the Friends Provident Society, a Quaker-friendly society that provided life insurance. It was constructed using Portland stone, and featured a relief sculpture of George Fox, as well as ornate carvings on the side of the six-storey building. A campaign was started in June 2013 to save Century House. The Twentieth Century Society strongly objected to the plans to demolish the building.
