Centre For The New Europe
The Centre for the New Europe (CNE) was a free-market think tank founded in 1993 and based in Brussels. It focused on EU issues such as economic growth, managing environmental change, health and welfare policy, competition policy, and innovation. The first director-general was Paul Fabra, former journalist at Le Monde (chief editor economics). Most recently, it was headed by Stephen Pollard, a British journalist and policy expert who previously worked at the Fabian Society and the Social Market Foundation. As of 2005, CNE had received $40,000 from ExxonMobil. In economics, a free market is an economic system in which the prices of goods and services are determined by supply and demand expressed by sellers and buyers. A think tank, or policy institute, is a research institute that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology, and culture. Most think tanks are non-governmental organizations, but some are semi-autonomous agencies within government or are associated with particular political parties, businesses or the military. Think-tank funding often includes a combination of donations from very wealthy people and those not so wealthy, with many also accepting government grants. Stephen Pollard (born 18 December 1964) is a British author and journalist. From 2008 until December 2021, he was the editor of ''The Jewish Chronicle'' and remains a senior advisor and writer on the paper. Fabian Society
The Fabian Society is a British socialist organisation whose purpose is to advance the principles of social democracy and democratic socialism via gradualist and reformist effort in democracies, rather than by revolutionary overthrow. The Fabian Society was also historically related to radicalism, a left-wing liberal tradition.
