Centre Party (Netherlands)
The Centre Party ( nl, Centrumpartij, , CP) was a Dutch nationalist extreme right-wing political party espousing an anti-immigrant program. The party was founded by Henry Brookman in 1980, and was represented by Hans Janmaat in the Dutch House of Representatives from 1982, until he was expelled from the party in 1984 and joined the more moderate Centre Democrats. The CP, as well as the CD, was subject to a ''cordon sanitaire'' by the other parties in the House of Representatives. After much infighting and finally legal proceedings against the party, it was declared bankrupt in 1986. The party was soon after succeeded by the Centre Party '86, which would become increasingly radical, until it was banned in 1998. Kedichem
Kedichem is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located about 7 km northeast of the city of Gorinchem, in the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden. The village was first mentioned between 1395 and 1396 as Kedinghen, and means "settlement of the people of Kedo (person)". In 1840, it was home 381 people. The Dutch People's Union ( nl, Nederlandse Volks-Unie, , NVU) is a Dutch Neo-Nazi political party. The party supports a merger between the Netherlands and Flanders. History The party was founded as a political party on 27 May 1971 by Guus Looy, with as key purpose to rehabilitate convicted WW-II war criminals. In 1973 Roeland Raes, of the Belgian ''Vlaams Blok'', became vice-president (reflecting the desire of both parties to unite the Netherlands and Flanders) and later that year Joop Glimmerveen took over the position of president. During the 1970s, the party became increasingly militant as younger neo-Nazis joined its ranks. When Glimmerveen revealed his sympathy for Adolf Hitler and Anton Mussert and the NVU became more and more a Nazi party, support for the party collapsed and it was forbidden. In politics, ''cordon sanitaire'' is the refusal of one political party to cooperate with certain other political parties. Often this is because the targeted party has strategies or an ideology perceived as unacceptable or radical and extremist. National politics Origins in Belgium Beginning in the late 1980s, the term was introduced into the discourse on parliamentary politics by Belgian commentators. At that time, the far-right Flemish nationalist Vlaams Blok party began to make significant electoral gains.
