Central Finance Company PLC is one of the oldest non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) in Sri Lanka having founded in 1957. The company is listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1969. Brand Finance ranked the company the 28th most valuable brand in Sri Lanka for the year 2021. Central Finance Company was ranked 44th in the ''LMD 100'' for the fiscal year 2019/20 by '' LMD''. History Central Finance Company was founded in 1957 in Kandy by Chandra Wijenaike. The company was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1969. The company acquired a 90.1 per cent stake in Isuru Leasing, a small-scale finance company based in Kandy in November 2014. This was carried out as part of the plan of consolidating the financial services sector by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka ( CBSL; si, ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහ බැංකුව, Sri Lanka Maha Bankuwa) is the monetary authority of Sri Lanka. This is a list of largest publicly traded companies on Colombo Stock Exchange by market capitalisation in Sri Lanka. Only the top 50 companies are listed below. List These 50 companies alone account for about 75% of the total market capitalisation of the Colombo Stock Exchange. Upali Newspapers
Upali Newspapers (Private) Limited (UNL) is a Sri Lankan media company which publishes a number of national newspapers and magazines. UNL was founded by Upali Wijewardene, nephew of media mogul D. R. Wijewardena. Upali Wijewardene started publishing two Sunday newspapers, ''Sunday Island (Sri Lanka), Sunday Island'' and ''Divaina Irida Sangrahaya'', in 1981. The two newspapers' daily counterparts - ''Divaina'' and ''The Island (Sri Lanka), The Island'' - started in 1982. Upali Wijewardene died in a mysterious air accident on 13 February 1983 and control of his newspapers passed to his widow Lakmini, and her father Sivali Ratwatte, brother of Sri Lanka Freedom Party, SLFP leader Sirimavo Bandaranaike. ''The Island'' is a daily English-language newspaper in Sri Lanka. It is published by Upali Newspapers. A sister newspaper of ''Divaina'', ''The Island'' was established in 1981. Its Sunday edition, ''Sunday Island'', commenced publishing in 1991. The daily newspaper currently has a circulation of 70,000 and its Sunday edition, 103,000 per issue. Hire Purchase
A hire purchase (HP), also known as an installment plan, is an arrangement whereby a customer agrees to a contract to acquire an asset by paying an initial installment (e.g., 40% of the total) and repaying the balance of the price of the asset plus interest over a period of time. Other analogous practices are described as closed-end leasing or rent to own. In other words installment means to let a thing without giving total price while payment will be given in a given time period. The buyer will pay monthly agreement installment.
