New Plymouth Rangers is an amateur association football club based in New Plymouth, New Zealand. They were founded as New Plymouth Old Boys in 1940, and have had a complex naming history. The team play at Merrilands Domain. The club has men's and women's senior and social teams, as well as over a dozen junior teams. History New Plymouth Old Boys was founded in 1940 and was based at Western Park, New Plymouth. New Plymouth United was founded in 1965 and based at Lynmouth Park. New Plymouth Old Boys entered the Central League for its first time in 1971. New Plymouth ( mi, Ngāmotu) is the major city of the Taranaki region on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It is named after the English city of Plymouth, Devon from where the first English settlers to New Plymouth migrated. The 1951 Chatham Cup was the 24th annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. The competition was run on a regional basis, with regional associations each holding separate qualifying rounds. Teams taking part in the final rounds are known to have included Eastern Suburbs (Auckland), Huntly Thistle, New Plymouth Old Boys, Napier High School Old Boys, Wanganui Old Boys, St. Andrews (Manawatu), Petone, Woodbourne (Marlborough), Riccarton, Northern (Dunedin), and Invercargill Thistle. Frank Albrechtsen
Frank Albrechtsen (born 16 March 1932) was a former association football player who represented New Zealand at international level. Born in New Plymouth and educated at New Plymouth Boys' High School, Albrechtsen played for the New Plymouth Old Boys club and represented Taranaki. Albrechtsen played three official A-international matches and five non-cap friendlies for New Zealand on a ten match tour of Fiji and Tahiti in 1952. Albrechtsen won his international caps against Pacific neighbours Fiji, the first match a 2–0 win on 7 September, followed by 9-0 and 5-2 wins on 14 September and 16 September respectively. Up to the last 16 of the competition, the cup was run in three regions (northern, central, and southern), with an open draw from the quarter-finals on. National League teams received a bye until the third round (last 64). The 1989 Chatham Cup was the 62nd annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. Up to the last 16 of the competition, the cup was run in three regions (northern, central, and southern). National League teams received a bye until the final 64 stage. In all, 153 teams took part in the competition, outstripping the previous year's record of 147. The 1989 final From this year, the final reverted to a single game, rather than a two-legged tie as had been the case for the previous three years' competitions. The final was very one-sided, with Christchurch United equalling the record of seven goals set by Seatoun in 1958. The aggregate of eight goals in the final also equalled the competition record. The format was abandoned for the 1989 Chatham Cup as it proved unpopular. The 1988 final was the only one to be decided on the away goals rule, with Waikato United winning after scoring more goals in the first leg in Christchurch, despite both matches ending in draws. The Chatham Cup is New Zealand's premier knockout tournament in men's association football. It is held annually, with the final contested in September. The current champions of the Chatham Cup are 2022 winners Auckland City, who defeated Eastern Suburbs 1–0 in the final. The Central Federation League is an amateur status league competition run by Central Football for association football clubs located in the central region of the North Island, New Zealand.
