''Center of Six'' is a second posthumous release of music by singer-songwriter Josh Clayton-Felt. It features previously unreleased songs by Josh Clayton-Felt and songs by Josh's friends written and recorded for him after his death. Recording The first part of the album features songs composed by Josh Clayton-Felt in the winter of 1996–97 in Kinsale, Ireland and recorded by him with his backing band in Los Angeles. The second part consist of tribute songs written for Josh. Josh Clayton-Felt
Josh Clayton-Felt (May 18, 1967 – January 19, 2000) was an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He co-founded the alternative rock band School of Fish and later embarked on a solo career. Biography Early years Clayton-Felt was one of two children along with his sister Laura born to Jewish parents Marilyn (1938-2006), a playwright and John J. Clayton, a writer. His parents later divorced and his mother would eventually remarry Henry Felt, a folk musician who exposed Clayton-Felt to the works of Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, and Pete Seeger. At the age of 17, Clayton-Felt visited Israel, writing about his experiences. He grew up outside of Boston, Massachusetts, and attended high school at the Cambridge School of Weston. ''Inarticulate Nature Boy'' is the debut solo album by American rock musician Josh Clayton-Felt. It was released on May 19, 1996 through A&M Records. Background and recording After the break-up of his group School of Fish, singer-guitarist Clayton-Felt began learning to play keyboards, bass, and drums in addition to guitar. He began recording 25 songs over the next few years. Although his friend and former bandmate Michael Ward added some guitar tracks, and he had a little help on percussion, Clayton-Felt for the most part played all the other instruments off this album. The track "Window" reached #49 on Radio & Records' Alternative chart. Critical reception Critic Roch Pariesien gave the album three out of five stars, calling it "more casual, relaxed, and eccentric" than Clayton-Felt's work in School of Fish. William Everett Preston (September 2, 1946 – June 6, 2006) was an American keyboardist, singer and songwriter whose work encompassed R&B, rock, soul, funk, and gospel. Preston was a top session keyboardist in the 1960s, during which he backed artists such as Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, the Everly Brothers, Reverend James Cleveland, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. He has participated in the bands The Previous and Mr. Jones and The Previous, as well as under his own name. Jones is the creator and host of Radio8Ball, a musical divination show in which participants' questions are answered by picking songs at random and interpreting the randomly chosen songs as the answer to the question.
