Centar, Niš
Centar (Serbian Cyrillic: Цeнтap) is a neighborhood of the city of Niš, Serbia. It is the part of the Niš municipality of Medijana. Location Centar neighborhood, as the name indicate, is located in the city center. It is flat and bordered on the north by the Nišava river and on the south by the neighborhood of Marger. History Centar neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Niš. Characteristics The neighborhood is administrative, commercial and residential. Tourist sites *Tinkers Alley - An old urban downtown in today Kopitareva Street, built in the first half of 18th century. It was a street full of tinkers but today it's full of cafes and restaurants. *Kalča Kalča is a large shopping center in the City of Niš. The municipalities and cities ( sr, општине и градови, opštine i gradovi) are the second level administrative subdivisions of Serbia. Medijana ( sr-cyr, Медијана) is one of five city municipalities which constitute the city of Niš. It is the central and the most populous city municipality of Niš with the population of 85,969 inhabitants. Geography The municipality borders Pantelej municipality in the north, Niška Banja municipality in the east, Palilula municipality in the south, and Crveni Krst municipality in the west. Demographics According to the 2011 census, the municipality had a population of 85,969 inhabitants, with 81,327 in the eponymous settlement. Serbian Cyrillic Alphabet
The Serbian Cyrillic alphabet ( sr, / , ) is a variation of the Cyrillic script used to write the Serbian language, updated in 1818 by Serbian linguist Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, Vuk Karadžić. It is one of the two alphabets used to write standard modern Serbian language, Serbian, the other being Gaj's Latin alphabet. Karadžić based his alphabet on the previous Slavonic-Serbian script, following the principle of "write as you speak and read as it is written", removing obsolete letters and letters representing iotified vowels, introducing from the Latin alphabet instead, and adding several consonant letters for sounds specific to Serbian phonology. During the same period, linguists led by Ljudevit Gaj adapted the Latin alphabet, in use in western South Slavic areas, using the same principles. Nišava
The Nišava or Nishava (Bulgarian and sr-Cyrl, Нишава, ) is a river in Bulgaria and Serbia, a right tributary, and with a length of also the longest one, of the South Morava. Course Bulgaria The Nišava originates in western Bulgaria, in the Stara Planina mountains (east of Kom Peak) near the village of Gintsi. Its source is close to the Serbian border. It enters Serbia after of flow through Bulgaria without receiving any major tributaries. Because it flows through Gintsi, the upper course of the river is known as Ginska (Cyrillic: Гинска). Tinkers Alley also known as Coppersmith alley ( sr, Kazandžijsko sokače, script=Latn, ') is an old urban downtown which was built in the first half of 18th century. It was a street full of tinkers and other crafts, together with craftsmen houses deriving from Turkish period.
