Celeste Johnson
Celeste Johnson (born 1959 in Chicago, Illinois), also known as Celeste, is an American-born, Italian-based athlete, model, singer and TV host. Before entering the showbusiness, Johnson was a professional long jump athlete. She started her career in show business as a model when she was discovered by producer Claudio Cecchetto in Milan. In 1983 she released her first single, ''Love & musica''. In 1984 she was a regular guest on TV shows like ''Sponsor City'' (Rete 4 and ''Premiatissima'' (Canale 5). In 1985 she released her first album, ''Celeste''. One of the songs from the album, "Lascia che sia", was released as a single and topped the Italian charts for five weeks. The same year Celeste performed at Festivalbar. In 1986 she released her second album, ''Blue''. In 1987 she recorded "Hot Girl", a duet with Italo disco Star Sabrina Salerno. Italo disco (variously capitalized, and sometimes hyphenated as Italo-disco) is a music genre which originated in Italy in the late 1970s and was mainly produced in the early 1980s. Italo disco evolved from the then-current underground dance, pop, and electronic music, both domestic and foreign (American hi-NRG, French Euro disco) and developed into a diverse genre. The genre employs electronic drums, drum machines, synthesizers, and occasionally vocoders. It is usually sung in English, and to a lesser extent in Italian and Spanish. The origin of the genre's name is strongly tied to marketing efforts of the ZYX record label, which began licensing and marketing the music outside Italy in 1982. Claudio Cecchetto (born 19 April 1952) is an Italian record producer and talent scout. Life and career Cecchetto was born in Ceggia, (metropolitan city of Venice). The Festivalbar was an Italian singing competition that took place in the most important Italian squares during summer, such as the Piazza del Duomo, Catania or Piazza Bra, Verona. The first edition took place in 1964 and was broadcast by RAI. The competition was held throughout the summer and the final round always took place at the Arena in Verona after 3-4 events in various cities of Italy. History Originally, the Festivalbar was a competition made with data from jukeboxes in Italian bars, so the competition was a one evening event transmitted by RAI.
