Cecilia H. Hauge
Cecilia Hedvig Hauge (May 18, 1905 – May 5, 1990) was an American nurse. She was director of the Veterans Administration Nursing Service. The International Committee of the Red Cross awarded Hauge the Florence Nightingale Medal in 1961. Early life and education Hauge was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota, the daughter of Malvin M. Hauge and Anna Kristine Sjelderup Hauge. Both of her parents were born in Norway. Her father and two of her brothers were doctors. She graduated from the University of Minnesota nursing school in 1929. Florence Nightingale Medal
The Florence Nightingale Medal is an international award presented to those distinguished in nursing and named after British nurse Florence Nightingale. The medal was established in 1912 by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), following the Eighth International Conference of Red Cross Societies in London in 1907. It is the highest international distinction a nurse can achieve and is awarded to nurses or nursing aides for ''"exceptional courage and devotion to the wounded, sick or disabled or to civilian victims of a conflict or disaster"'' or ''"exemplary services or a creative and pioneering spirit in the areas of public health or nursing education"''. Bronze Star Medal
The Bronze Star Medal (BSM) is a United States Armed Forces decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone. When the medal is awarded by the Army, Air Force, or Space Force for acts of valor in combat, the "V" device is authorized for wear on the medal. When the medal is awarded by the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard for acts of valor or meritorious service in combat, the Combat "V" is authorized for wear on the medal. Officers from the other Uniformed Services of the United States are eligible to receive this award, as are foreign soldiers who have served with or alongside a service branch of the United States Armed Forces.
