Cecil L. Collins
Cecil L. Collins (April 21, 1926 – September 30, 2007) was the former Mayor of North Augusta, South Carolina, U.S., from 1967 to 1971 and a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1972 to 1977. He was born and raised in Fort Valley, Georgia, U.S., and served in the Naval Air Corps during World War II. He attended the University of Georgia and graduated in 1950 with a degree in agronomy. Collins opened up the first wholesale florist in Augusta, Georgia, U.S., in 1954, which is still being run by three of his sons (Georgia State Floral Distributors). North Augusta, South Carolina
North Augusta is a city in Aiken and Edgefield counties in the U.S. state of South Carolina, on the north bank of the Savannah River. The population was 21,348 at the 2010 census. The city is included in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) and is part of the Augusta, Georgia, metropolitan area. History The city was incorporated in 1906 and sprouted from the pre-Civil War city of Hamburg. The original land area was approximately 772 acres. James U. Jackson was the city's primary visionary. Order Of The Palmetto
The Order of the Palmetto is the highest civilian honor awarded by the Governor of South Carolina. It is awarded to South Carolinians who demonstrate extraordinary lifetime achievement, service and contributions of national or statewide significance. History Governor John West created the Order of the Palmetto in 1971 to recognize lifetime achievement and service by South Carolina residents and those born in the state. It is thought to be modeled on similar honors bestowed in other states, such as the Kentucky Colonel. Over the years, the honor program has been modified. North Augusta High School is a four-year public high school located in North Augusta, South Carolina. Approximately 1,500 students attend the school. The school offers over thirty student organizations. North Augusta is an AP Magnet School and is partnered with the National Math and Science Initiative to provide various programs, resources, and help to students enrolled in AP courses at the school.
