Cecil Cole
Cecil Edward Cole (September 23, 1919 – June 20, 2002) was an American Negro league pitcher in the 1940s. A native of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Cole graduated from Connellsville High School in 1937, and served in the US Army during World War II. He played for the Newark Eagles during their 1946 Negro World Series championship season. Cole went on to become a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates The Pittsburgh Pirates are an American professional baseball team based in Pittsburgh. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum.
