Catherine Caughey
Catherine Mary Caughey (née Harvey, 8 December 1923 – 12 April 2008) used Colossus computers for codebreaking at Bletchley Park during World War II. Early life Catherine Mary Harvey was born in Eldoret, Kenya, on 8 December 1923, and spent her early life on an isolated farm there. She was educated in England, at St Mary's School, Calne in Wiltshire, and Harcombe House Domestic Science School, in Dorset. World War II service Harvey was called up for war service in 1943. After thorough interviewing and testing, she was chosen to work as a "Wren" in the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS), allocated to "Special Duties X" at Bletchley Park. Here from early 1944, she worked in the "Newmanry" (named after Max Newman) using the Colossus computers for deciphering German High Command messages. Christine Caughey is a former City Councillor in Auckland City, New Zealand, for the Action Hobson ticket. She was successful on gaining election in the 2004 local body elections on an anti-motorway platform. She was awarded Metro Magazine's Aucklander of the Year in 2004, primarily for the role she played in politically defeating the Eastern Transport Corridor roading element that was proposed for Hobson Bay by the Waitematā Harbour. Seán Caughey
Seán Caughey ( ga, Seán Mac Eachaidh) (died 18 July 2010) was an Irish republican, and later a monarchist and activist. Based in Belfast, Caughey was the secretary of the local branch of the Gaelic League, He was the founding secretary of the Northern Ireland Council for Civil Liberties, on which he represented the "Six County Election Directorate". In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he campaigned for the release of 166 internees in D-Wing of Crumlin Road Prison. He was then secretary of the Belfast Council for Civil Liberties. Caughey was the most prominent Belfast-based member of Sinn Féin, then a banned organisation in the United Kingdom. Smith & Caughey Ltd, trading as Smith & Caughey's, is a chain of two mid-sized, upscale department stores in Auckland, New Zealand. One of the oldest surviving retail businesses in New Zealand, it was established in 1880 by Ulster-born Marianne Smith as a drapers and millinery shop, and is the oldest-surviving department store in Auckland. Currently, it is mostly fashion-oriented, with sections for jewellery, make-up and homewares. Stores The company has two stores in Auckland; on Queen Street, City Centre, and on Broadway, Newmarket.
