Caudry () is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. Its inhabitants are called theCaudrésiens. The town is mostly known as the Capital City of French Lace (along with Calais). Caudry station has rail connections to Douai, Cambrai, Paris, Lille and Saint-Quentin. Toponymy The city of Caudry has not always carried its current name. Denain (; pcd, Dnain) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. Denain had a population of 19,877, on a land area of 11.52 km² (4.448 sq mi). It is the largest of 47 communes which comprise the Communauté d'agglomération de la Porte du Hainaut, which in 2017 had a total population of 158,754. History A mere village in the beginning of the 19th century, its population rapidly increased from 1850 until 1962, when it had 29,467 inhabitants. Since then its population declined by about 30%. The Chemin de fer du Cambrésis was a long metre gauge railway in the Nord and Aisne departments of France. There were four lines with Caudry at the centre. History The Cambrésis railway opened in 1881. It was a ''voies ferrées d'intérêt local'' system. From Caudry, lines ran to Cambrai in the north, Denain in the east, Catillon in the south, and St. Quentin Cambrésis in the west. The first section of line to open was the section from Cambrai to Le Cateau in 1881, this was extended by to Catillon in 1886. In 1887, a branch from Caudry to Villers-Outréaux was opened, extended by to Le Catelet-Gouy in 1888. The line from Caudry to Denain opened in 1891. In 1892, the line was extended by from Le Catelet-Gouy to St. Quentin Cambrésis, with a final extension of to St. Quentin Nord opening in 1904. Le Quesnoy
Le Quesnoy (; pcd, L' Kénoé) is a commune and small town in the east of the Nord department of northern France. It was part of the historical province of French Hainaut. It had a keynote industry in shoemaking before the late 1940s, followed by a chemical factory and dairy, giving way to its weekly market, tourism, local commuting to elsewhere such as Valenciennes and local shops. Le Quesnoy's inhabitants are known as ''Quercitains''. Economy The town of Le Quesnoy has somehow missed much of the Industrial Revolution. Unlike the neighboring towns of Valenciennes or Maubeuge, iron/steel works did not take hold. The lack of wealth underground and of a major transportation route partly explains this. Saint-Aubert is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. History Private A S Bullock in his World War I memoir recalls spending a night on the brick floor of an abandoned house in St Aubert on 24 October 1918, waking at 5 am to heavy artillery bombardment. He provides a dramatic description of the battle that ensued, with horses carrying guns into battle and men stripped to the waist 'working like demons loading the guns'. Lille-Flandres station ( French: ''Gare de Lille-Flandres'', Dutch: ''Rijsel Vlaanderen'') is the main railway station of Lille, capital of French Flanders. It is a terminus for SNCF Intercity and regional trains. It opened in 1842 as the ''Gare de Lille'', but was renamed in 1993 when Lille Europe station opened. There is a 500m walking distance between the two stations, which are also adjacent stops on one of the lines of the Lille Metro. Construction The station was built by Léonce Reynaud and Sydney Dunnett for the CF du Nord. Construction began in 1869 and ended in 1892. The station front is the old front from Paris' Gare du Nord and was dismantled then reassembled in Lille at the end of the 19th century; an extra storey, as well as a large clock, were added to the original design.
