Cathy Penney
Catherine Penney is a New Zealand pilot and aviation instructor. She was the first woman in New Zealand to gain her helicopter pilot's licence. Penney (née Matheson) learned to fly in 1960 at Wellington Aero Club in Piper Cubs, and in 1964 gained instructor ratings at Auckland Flying School at Ardmore. In 1975 she was the first woman in New Zealand to gain a helicopter pilot's licence, and in 1978 became New Zealand's first female helicopter instructor. In 1981 Penney started Heli-Flight Wairarapa with Laurie Bargh. Ardmore Airport (New Zealand)
Ardmore Airport is an airport 3 nautical miles (5.5 km) southeast of Manurewa in Auckland, New Zealand. History Ardmore was constructed during World War II by USAAF forces stationed in Auckland and was intended to be used as a base for B-17 Flying Fortress bombers. Due to developments in the Pacific War it was never used for this purpose but was instead was used by the RNZAF, who operated Corsair fighters. RNZAF Auckland operations were consolidated at Whenuapai after World War II. From the post-war years until the mid-1970s the grounds were home to a teacher training unit and the Auckland University School of Engineering. The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA; Māori: ''Te Mana Rererangi Tūmatanui o Aotearoa'') is the government agency tasked with establishing civil aviation safety and security standards in New Zealand. The CAA also monitors adherence to those standards and is responsible for enforcement proceedings. The authority "investigates and reviews accident and incident investigations in its capacity as the responsible safety and security authority, subject to the limitations set out in section 14(3) of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission Act 1990" (TAIC).
