Cathedral Of The Lord Of Burgos, Huánuco
The Cathedral of the Lord of Burgos ( es, Catedral del Señor de Burgos) Also Huánuco Cathedral is the name of a religious building affiliated to the Catholic Church located in the city of Huánuco, Peru. The temple follows the Roman or Latin rite and is the mother church of the Diocese of Huánuco ('' Dioecesis Huanucensis '') which was created in 1865 by the bull ''Singulari animi Nostri'' of Pope Pius IX. The original building was built in 1618. In 1965 it was demolished. The new cathedral was built by the German architect Kuno. It is under the pastoral responsibility of Bishop Neri Menor Vargas. Huánuco
Huánuco (; qu, Wanuku) is a city in central Peru. It had a population of 196,627 as of 2017 and in 2015 it had a population of 175,068. It is the capital of the Huánuco Region and the Huánuco District. It is the seat of the diocese of Huánuco. The metropolitan city of Huanuco is 170,000 hab (2011, urban pop, INEI). It has three districts, Huanuco (head), Amarilis, and Pillco Marca. In this city, the Higueras river meets the Huallaga river, one of the largest rivers in the country. In church governance, a diocese or bishopric is the ecclesiastical district under the jurisdiction of a bishop. History In the later organization of the Roman Empire, the increasingly subdivided provinces were administratively associated in a larger unit, the diocese (Latin ''dioecesis'', from the Greek term διοίκησις, meaning "administration"). Pope Pius IX ( it, Pio IX, ''Pio Nono''; born Giovanni Maria Mastai Ferretti; 13 May 1792 – 7 February 1878) was head of the Catholic Church from 1846 to 1878, the longest verified papal reign. He was notable for convoking the First Vatican Council in 1868 and for permanently losing control of the Papal States in 1870 to the Kingdom of Italy. The Cathedral of Saint Mary of Burgos ( es, Santa Iglesia BasÃlica Catedral Metropolitana de Santa MarÃa de Burgos) is a Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary located in the historical center of the Spanish city of Burgos.
