The Cathedral of Our Lady of Mercy ( es, Catedral de Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes) is the main Roman Catholic church building of Mercedes, Uruguay. It is the see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mercedes since 1960. History Built in Neoclassical style with design of Swiss architect Antonio Petrochi, it was consecrated in 1867. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy. On the occasion of the celebrations of the bicentennial of 2011, the cathedral was refurbished, thanks to donations. Mercedes () is the capital and largest city of the department of Soriano in Uruguay. According to the census 2011, it is the tenth most populated city of the country. Mercedes is an important centre of tourism, commerce and a commercial port. Its main industries are based on agriculture, dairy products, paper manufacturing and industrial activities. Its '' rambla'' (riverside promenade) is one of the widest in the country. Location The city is located on the junction of Route 2 with Route 14, and is situated on the south bank of the RÃo Negro. The Charity Chapel ( es, Capilla de la Caridad), better known as Capilla del Hospital Maciel, is a Roman Catholic chapel in Montevideo, Uruguay. Overview Run by the Sisters Hospitaller of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it is part of the Maciel Hospital. The images venerated are: Our Lady of Mercy (main altar), Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Sorrows, Christ, Saint Anthony, Saint Francis of Paola, and Saint Eligius (patron saint of the metalworkers, who donated the image). Garzón is a village in the Maldonado Department of southeastern Uruguay. Garzón is also the name of the municipality to which the village belongs. Hospital Maciel is a hospital located in 25 de Mayo 174, Old City in Montevideo. It is one of the oldest hospitals in Uruguay. The land was originally donated in Spanish colonial times by philanthropist Francisco Antonio Maciel, who teamed up with Mateo Vidal to establish a hospital and charity. The first building was extended between 1781 and 1788, and later expanded on over time. The actual building is dated to 1825 with the plans of José Toribio (son of Tomás Toribio) and later Bernardo Poncini (wing on the Guaranà street, 1859), Eduardo Canstatt (corner of Guaranà and 25 de Mayo) and Julián Masquelez Julián is the Spanish equivalent of the name Julian. Villa Muñoz - Retiro is a ''barrio'' (neighbourhood or district) of Montevideo, Uruguay. Location This barrio borders Aguada and Reducto to the west, La Figurita to the north, La Comercial to the east and Cordón to the south. Landmarks Villa Muñoz - Retiro is home to the Reus al Norte, a picturesque and historic housing area.
