Cathedral Basilica Of San Juan De Los Lagos
The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of St. John of the Lakes ( es, Catedral Basílica de Nuestra Señora de San Juan de los Lagos) also called San Juan de los Lagos Cathedral It is a Catholic church located in the city of San Juan de los Lagos, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, headquarters of the diocese of San Juan de los Lagos. This Cathedral-Basilica ranks second in the number of visitors in the country (more than 7 million pilgrims a year) after the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The first shrine was built by Diego de Camarena in 1642, now known as the chapel of the First Miracle (''capilla del Primer Milagro''). Later, in 1682, he completed the construction of the second sanctuary, which is now the parish of San Juan Bautista. In the period 1732–1769, Carlos Cervantes, bishop of Guadalajara, was responsible for the construction of the current basilica. San Juan de los Lagos (Spanish language, Spanish for "John the Baptist, Saint John of the Lakes") is a city and municipalities of Mexico, municipality located in the northeast corner of the state of Jalisco, Mexico, in a region known as Los Altos (Jalisco), Los Altos. It is best known as the home of a small image of the Virgin Mary called Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos or in Nahuatl Cihuapilli, which means “Great Lady.” Since the first major miracle ascribed to her in 1632, she has been venerated especially for cases involving mortal danger. Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos (English: Our Lady of Saint John of the Lakes) is a Roman Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated by Mexican and Texan faithful. The original image is a popular focus for pilgrims and is located in the state of Jalisco, in central Mexico, northeast of the city of Guadalajara.
