Caterina Di Guisa
''Caterina di Guisa'' is an opera in two acts by Carlo Coccia to a libretto by Felice Romani based on the 1829 play ''Henry III and His Courts'' by Alexandre Dumas. ''Caterina di Guisa'' premiered on 14 February 1833 at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan with triumphal success.Alexander Weatherson, "A masterpiece twice composed: ''Caterina di Guisa''", liner notes of Bongiovanni recording, 1991 A revised version, probably prepared to exploit at its best the different cast, was presented on 15 June 1836 at the Teatro Carignano in Turin. Carlo Coccia
Carlo Coccia (14 April 1782 – 13 April 1873) was an Italian opera composer. He was known for the genre of opera semiseria. Life and career Coccia was born in Naples, and studied in his native city with Pietro Casella, Fedele Fenaroli, and Giovanni Paisiello, who introduced him to King Joseph Bonaparte for whom he became the private musician. He wrote his first opera, ''Il matrimonio per lettera di cambio'', in 1807, but it was a failure; however, the following year, with the help of Paisiello, his second opera, ''Il poeta fortunato'', was well received. He then moved to Venice, where he concentrated on opera semiseria, of which ''Clotilde'' from 1815, is perhaps the best example. Henriette Méric-Lalande
Henriette Méric-Lalande (1798 – 7 September 1867) was a French operatic soprano, one of the leading sopranos of the early 19th century. She was born at Dunkirk, the daughter and pupil of the conductor Jean-Baptiste Lalande. She made her stage debut in Nantes in 1814. In Paris, Castil-Blaze was impressed by her, and introduced her to Garcia in 1823. She then went to Milan for further studies with Bonfichi and Banderali. Méric-Lalande sang at La Fenice in Venice, 1823–24, where she created Meyerbeer's '' Il crociato in Egitto''. In 1826, she created Bellini's ''Bianca e Gernando'' at the San Carlo in Naples. Bongiovanni (record Label)
F. Bongiovanni (1905) of Bologna is an Italian classical music publisher and, since 1975, classical record label. The company was founded by Francesco Bongiovanni to publish the works of then modern composers such as Respighi, Zandonai, Alfano, Pietro Cimara, and Francesco Balilla Pratella. Among the most famous pieces published by Bongiovanni are Respighi's Nebbie and Balilla Pratella's futurist manifesto in music, Musica Futurista. Bongiovanni played a central role in promoting music written by the composers of the Generazione dell'80, and in 1938 Alfredo Casella wrote: "The history of music in Bologna can't be written without the name Bongiovanni". Pierre de Ronsard (; 11 September 1524 – 27 December 1585) was a French poet or, as his own generation in France called him, a "prince of poets". Early life Pierre de Ronsard was born at the Manoir de la Possonnière, in the village of Couture-sur-Loir, Vendômois (in present-day Loir-et-Cher). Baudouin de Ronsard or Rossart was the founder of the French branch of the house, and made his mark in the early stages of the Hundred Years' War. Cavatina is a musical term, originally meaning a short song of simple character, without a second strain or any repetition of the air. It is now frequently applied to any simple, melodious air, as distinguished from brilliant arias or recitatives, many of which are part of a larger movement or scena in oratorio or opera. Domenico Donzelli
Domenico Donzelli (2 February 1790 – 31 March 1873) was an Italian tenor with a robust voice who enjoyed an important career in Paris, London and his native country during the 1808-1841 period. Biography Donzelli can be regarded as an offshoot of the so-called Bergamo tenor school which had originated with Giacomo David and Gaetano Crivelli, and which also included Giovanni David, Andrea Nozzari, Marco Bordogni, and Giovanni Battista Rubini.
