Caterina Cherubini
Caterina Cherubini (died 1811) was an Italian miniature painter. Cherubini, active for much of her career in Rome, was named a member of the Accademia di San Luca in 1760; the Accademia contains in its collection an anonymous oil portrait of her. She is said to have worked in pastel during her career. at the ''Dictionary of Pastellists Before 1800''. Her husband, whom she married in 1750, was the Spanish painter Francesco Preciado de la Vega. A portrait miniature is a miniature portrait painting, usually executed in gouache, watercolor, or enamel. Portrait miniatures developed out of the techniques of the miniatures in illuminated manuscripts, and were popular among 16th-century elites, mainly in England and France, and spread across the rest of Europe from the middle of the 18th century, remaining highly popular until the development of daguerreotypes and photography in the mid-19th century. Accademia Di San Luca
The Accademia di San Luca (the "Academy of Saint Luke") is an Italian academy of artists in Rome. The establishment of the Accademia de i Pittori e Scultori di Roma was approved by papal brief in 1577, and in 1593 Federico Zuccari became its first ''principe'' or director; the statutes were ratified in 1607. Other founders included Girolamo Muziano and Pietro Olivieri. The Academy was named for Luke the Evangelist, the patron saint of painters. From the late sixteenth century until it moved to its present location at the Palazzo Carpegna, it was based in an urban block by the Roman Forum and although these buildings no longer survive, the Academy church of Santi Luca e Martina, does.
