Catende is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Pernambuco. Has an estimated population in 2020 of 43,340 inhabitants in a total area of 207.24 km2. The economy is based on the cultivation of sugarcane and the production of derived products ( sugar and ethanol). Catende used to boast the world's largest sugar mill. Palmares is a city in northeastern Brazil, in the State of Pernambuco, with 63,500 inhabitants, according with IBGE 2020. Its main activity is the combined field of agriculture and livestock ( pt, agropecuária). It received its name from the Portuguese people who named it that due to the number of palm trees in the area where run-away slaves had created approximately 16 quilombos, led by Zumbi.
