Catalog Of Paintings In The Louvre Museum
The Catalog of paintings in the Louvre Museum lists the painters of the collection of the Louvre Museum as they are catalogued in the Joconde database. The collection contains roughly 5,500 paintings by 1,400 artists born before 1900, and over 500 named artists are French by birth. For painters with more than two works in the collection, or for paintings by unnamed and unknown artists, see the Louvre website. Most artists in the collection are represented with only one or two works, but some artists are represented with many many more; for example artists with over 50 works catalogued are Théodore Chassériau, Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot, Eugène Delacroix, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Eustache Le Sueur, Peter Paul Rubens, and Pierre-Henri de Valenciennes. Per artist a maximum of two artwork IDs is provided with which the artwork can be searched online. Angelica Kauffmann
Maria Anna Angelika Kauffmann ( ; 30 October 1741 – 5 November 1807), usually known in English as Angelica Kauffman, was a Swiss Neoclassical painter who had a successful career in London and Rome. Remembered primarily as a history painter, Kauffmann was a skilled portraitist, landscape and decoration painter. She was, along with Mary Moser, one of two female painters among the founding members of the Royal Academy in London in 1768. Early life Kauffman was born at Chur in Graubünden, Switzerland. Her family moved to Morbegno in 1742, then Como in Lombardy in 1752 at that time under Austrian rule. In 1757 she accompanied her father to Schwarzenberg in Vorarlberg/Austria where her father was working for the local bishop. Her father, Joseph Johann Kauffmann, was a relatively poor man but a skilled Austrian muralist and painter, who was often travelling for his work. Anne Vallayer-Coster (21 December 1744 – 28 February 1818) was a major 18th-century French painter best known for still lifes. She achieved fame and recognition very early in her career, being admitted to the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1770, at the age of twenty-six.McKinven 2002 Despite the low status that still life painting had at this time, Vallayer-Coster’s highly developed skills, especially in the depiction of flowers, soon generated a great deal of attention from collectors and other artists. Nanine Vallain
Nanine Vallain (1767–1815) was a French painter active between 1785 and 1810. She was sometimes known as Jeanne-Louise Vallain or Madame Piètre. Biography Vallain was a native of Paris, born into the family of a master scribe. She took lessons in painting and drawing with Jacques-Louis David and Joseph-Benoît Suvée. Vallain was first recognized by art critics in 1785 during the :fr:Exposition de la Jeunesse, Exposition de la Jeunesse, an annual exhibit at the place Dauphine, by a critic with the Mercure de France. Thea Schleusner (1879-1964) was a German painter. Biography Schleusner was born on 30 April 1879 in Wittenberg, Germany. She studied in Paris at the Académie Colarossi and the Académie Moderne. In Germany, she studied with Franz Skarbina and Reinhold Lepsius. She settled in Berlin where she painted portraits of Emil Nolde, Albert Einstein, and Friedrich Nietzsche. Adèle Romany (7 December 1769 – 6 June 1846) was a French painter. Biography Romany was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Regnault and is known for miniatures and portraits, especially those of people involved in performing arts. In 1790, she married the miniature painter François Antoine Romany (they later divorced). She exhibited her works from 1793 to 1808 under the name ''Romany'' in the Paris Salon, but from 1808 to 1833 under the name ''Romanée''. In 1808, she won a gold medal of the jury. She died in Paris, aged 76. Louise Moillon (1610–1696) was a French people, French still life Painting, painter in the Baroque era. It is recorded that she became known as one of the best still life painters of her time, as her work was purchased by King Charles I of England, as well as French nobility. Catherine Lusurier
Catherine Lusurier (1752–11 January 1781) was a French painter. Lusurier was a native of Paris; her mother, Jeanne Callot, was a dressmaker, while her father Pierre was a member of a family of milliners. She was the niece of Hubert Drouais, to whom she was apprenticed until his death, whereupon she continued to live with his widow, Marie–Marguerite Lusurier, on the rue des Orties in the parish of Saint-Roch; today the street no longer exists, having been torn up to make way for the avenue de l'Opéra during the Second French Empire, Second Empire. She likely worked alongside François-Hubert Drouais and his son Jean Germain Drouais while in their atelier. Twenty-one paintings, including portraits of Jean Drouais as a boy and of Jean le Rond d'Alembert, have been ascribed to Lusurier, who was only twenty-eight at the time of her death.
