Catalan Open
The Catalan Open was a European Tour golf tournament which was played annually from 1989 to 1996, except for 1990. It was played at several different golf courses in Catalonia, Spain. It never had the same full official name two years in a row, due to sponsorship and preferred language changes. The winners included future two-time Masters champion José María Olazábal José María Olazábal Manterola (, ; born 5 February 1966) is a Spanish professional golfer from the Basque region who has enjoyed success on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour, and has won two major championships, both at The Masters. .... Sam Torrance
Samuel Robert Torrance (born 24 August 1953) is a Scottish professional golfer and sports commentator. He was one of the leading players on the European Tour from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s, with 21 Tour wins. Torrance was a member of European Ryder Cup teams on eight occasions consecutively; on Cup-winning teams four times. He was also part of the winning Scotland team at the 1995 Dunhill Cup. He was the winning non-playing captain of the European Ryder Cup team in 2002. Torrance was honoured with the MBE (1996) and OBE (2003), for his outstanding contributions to golf. Colin Stuart Montgomerie, Order of the British Empire, OBE (born 23 June 1963) is a Scotland, Scottish professional golfer. Gordon Brand Jnr
Gordon Brand Jnr (19 August 1958 – 31 July 2019) was a Scottish professional golfer. He played on the European Tour, winning eight times, and later the European Senior Tour, winning twice. He played in the 1979 Walker Cup and played twice in the Ryder Cup, in 1987 and 1989. Early life and amateur career Brand was born in Kirkcaldy. His father, Gordon Brand Snr, was the club professional at Knowle Golf Club in Bristol from 1969 to 2001. Brand had a successful amateur career and played for Great Britain and Ireland in the 1979 Walker Cup and in the Eisenhower Trophy in 1978 and 1980. 1989 European Tour
The 1989 European Tour, titled as the 1989 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 18th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. It marked the tour's first visit to Asia, with the inaugural Karl Litten Desert Classic. The season was made up of 33 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and ten non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Northern Ireland's Ronan Rafferty. Changes for 1989 There were several changes from the previous season, with the addition of the Tenerife Open, the Dubai Desert Classic, the Volvo Open Championship, the Murphy's Cup (an approved special event), the BMW International Open and the Catalan Open, which replaced the cancelled Barcelona Open. The 1990 European Tour, titled as the 1990 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 19th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was made up of 37 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and seven non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Wales' Ian Woosnam for the second time, having previously won in 1987. Changes for 1990 There were several changes from the previous season, with the addition of the Atlantic Open, the Amex Med Open and the Austrian Open; and the promotion of the Murphy's Cup to full Order of Merit status. David Feherty
David William Feherty (born 13 August 1958) is a former professional golfer and current golf broadcaster. As a touring professional he won five European Tour events, competed at the Open Championship twice ( 1989 and 1994), and played on Europe's 1991 Ryder Cup team. Late in his career he joined the PGA Tour. Since retiring, he has worked as a television personality; from 1997 through 2015 Feherty served as an on-course reporter for the ''PGA Tour on CBS''. In 2011, he introduced a self-titled interview series on Golf Channel and subsequently joined NBC Sports full-time in 2016. In July 2022, it was announced that Feherty would depart NBC and become an analyst for LIV Golf. Johan Ryström
Johan Börje Ryström (born 13 January 1964) is a Swedish professional golfer. Ryström grew up in Köping. He started playing golf at age six and was a scratch golfer by age fifteen. in August 1986, Ryström won the Nordic Championship over 72 holes in Hvide Klit, Denmark. Later that year he represented Sweden at the Eisenhower Trophy in Caracas, Venezuela, finishing 4th with his team and 9th individually. José María Cañizares
José María Cañizares (born 18 February 1947) is a Spanish golfer. Cañizares was born in Madrid. He turned professional in 1967 and made the top hundred on the European Tour Order of Merit every year from its first season in 1972 through to 1993. He placed in the top ten five times, with a best ranking of fourth in 1983. He won five events on the tour. Cañizares was a member of four European Ryder Cup teams and had a record of 5 wins, 4 losses and two ties, including 2.5 points in four singles matches.
