Castle Heights, Los Angeles
Castle Heights is a neighborhood on the Westside of the city of Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1922, the neighborhood contains roughly 900 single-family residences, along with multi-family apartments and condominiums with a limited amount of commercial property. Geography The neighborhood is bound by Cheviot Hills to the west, Beverlywood to the north, and the Santa Monica Freeway to the south and east. The neighborhood's multi-family housing is concentrated along the southern half of the neighborhood, while its commercial buildings are concentrated along National Boulevard between the Santa Monica Freeway and Castle Heights Avenue, and along South Robertson Boulevard. History Castle Heights was established in 1922, and many of the single family residences date from the 1920s to the 1940s and were built in the Spanish Revival style. Beverlywood, Los Angeles
Beverlywood is a neighborhood in the Westside of the city of Los Angeles, California. History Beverlywood was developed in 1940 by Walter H. Leimert, who also developed Leimert Park. The neighborhood consists of 1,354 single family homes, and was one of the first neighborhoods in the Los Angeles area to have binding CC&Rs. These regulations, which are administered by the Beverlywood Homes Association, strictly limit housing size, style, color, and design along with additional restrictions on landscaping, and are enforced by a review committee. Additionally, all residents are required to pay the fees to the Beverlywood Home Association. In recent years, the neighborhood has become a hotspot for mansionization. Despite complying with HOA regulations, many residents believe that the newer and larger houses ruin the feel of the neighborhood, and have been successfully campaigning the Los Angeles City Council for regulations to restrict new home sizes. The E Line (formerly the Expo Line from 2012–2019) is a light rail line that runs between Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica. It is one of the seven lines in the Metro Rail system, and is operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). The line opened in 2012. The E Line largely follows the right-of-way of the former Pacific Electric Santa Monica Air Line. Passenger service ended in 1953; freight-only service ended by March 1988. Palms (originally "The Palms") is a community in the Westside region of Los Angeles, California, founded in 1886 and the oldest neighborhood annexed to the city, in 1915. The 1886 tract was marketed as an agricultural and vacation community. Palms (Los Angeles Metro Station)
Palms station is an elevated light rail station on the E Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station is located over the intersection of National Boulevard and Palms Boulevard in the Palms neighborhood of Los Angeles, after which the station is named. History Bay View was a stop on the Los Angeles and Independence Railroad. It was renamed The Palms in 1886. The Eastlake style Palms-Southern Pacific Railroad Depot building was situated approximately west of the present station, on the south side of the tracks, and remained in active rail service until the closure of the Santa Monica Air Line in 1953.
