''Cassie'' is the debut album released by American singer Cassie, released on August 8, 2006, by NextSelection Life Group, Bad Boy Records, and Atlantic Records. Cassie was discovered by record producer Ryan Leslie, who helped her record demo tapes. After Cassie was signed by Diddy, the founder of Bad Boy Records, she continued to work with Leslie who produced the entire album. Musically, ''Cassie'' is an experimental R&B and pop album with hip hop influences, containing "looming synthesizer patterns" and "ice-cream-truck melod esto give it a slightly twisted and threatening edge", as well as "flippant playfulness." The album was well-received critically and praised for its production. In addition to being called "confection", it drew comparisons to Janet Jackson. Casandra Elizabeth Ventura (born August 26, 1986), known professionally as Cassie, is an American singer, songwriter, model, actress and dancer. Born in New London, Connecticut, she began her career as a result of meeting record producer Ryan Leslie in late 2004, who later signed her to NextSelection Lifestyle Group. "Just a Friend 2002" is a song by American R&B singer Mario, written by Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell, Harold Lilly, John Smith, and Biz Markie. It is a loose cover of Markie's hit "Just a Friend" and was the first single released from Mario's self-titled debut album. Mario's version is different, as the story is changed from a man who discovers his girlfriend has been cheating on him to a story about unrequited love. Produced by Campbell, the song was released in April 2002 and outperformed Markie's 1989 version on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, peaking at number four on August 24, 2002, while Markie's peaked at number nine.
