Casitas Springs (; ''Casitas'', Spanish for "little houses") is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, located east of Lake Casitas. It is an old community which was recorded as Arroyo de Las Casitas (“creek of the little houses”) in 1864. It has a population of 1,038 as of 1999, down from 1,090 in 1990 Census. Casitas Springs is located along California State Route 33 south of Oak View. It is known for its groves of eucalyptus trees along the highway. History The community was first recorded in 1864 under the name Arroyo de Las Casitas (“creek of the little houses”). The same 2005 winter storms that damaged nearby La Conchita, California also damaged Casitas Springs. Economy The oldest, most rural winery in Ventura County is near the community. Lake Casitas
Lake Casitas is a reservoir in Ventura County, California, built by the United States Bureau of Reclamation and completed in 1959. The project provides drinking water and water for irrigation. A secondary benefit is flood control. It was the venue for canoeing and rowing at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Casitas Dam was constructed on Coyote Creek, two miles (3 km) before it joins the Ventura River. Santa Ana Creek and North Fork Coyote Creek also flow into the lake. The system was designed for water from the Ventura River to be diverted into a canal under specific conditions since the impounded watershed is not sufficient to fill the lake. The Roadshow Revival is a Johnny Cash Tribute Festival held at Mission Park in Ventura, California in June. The location of the Event is in close proximity to Johnny Cash's home and office in Casitas Springs and Ventura. It is produced by Ross Emery and Johnny Cash's daughter, Cindy Cash and features Outlaw Country acts, Rockabilly bands, a Johnny Cash Memorabilia Gallery, Pin-Up Girl Pageant, and a car and bike show. History In 2009 musician and local business owner Ross Emery produced the first Johnny Cash Music Festival in Ventura County, with support from the Cash family, his brother, and the community of Ventura. The following year Ross bought the majority stake in the event and Cash's daughter Cindy joined the production team. In 2011, due to legal issues Emery was forced to change the event name to ''Roadshow Revival—A Tribute to the Music of Johnny Cash''. John R. Cash (born J. R. Cash; February 26, 1932 – September 12, 2003) was an American country singer-songwriter. La Conchita, California
La Conchita (; Spanish for "The Little Shell") is a small unincorporated community in western Ventura County, California, on U.S. Route 101 just southeast of the Santa Barbara county line. The ZIP Code is 93001, and the community is inside area code 805. On January 10, 2005, a major landslide occurred in La Conchita. The 2005 landslide killed 10 people, and destroyed or damaged dozens of houses. The landslide recurred on part of a previous landslide in 1995. History "La Conchita", Spanish for little conch shell, was first used as the name of a spur on the Southern Pacific railroad line in the 1880s and it was a name generally used to describe a broader area than the present day village. Oak View is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, United States. The community is located along the Ventura River in a narrow valley between the towns of Casitas Springs (south) and Mira Monte (north). Lake Casitas and the community of Ojai are also nearby. At the 2010 census, the population of Oak View was 4,066, down from 4,199 at the 2000 census, making it the third largest community between Ojai and the city of Ventura. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Oak View as a census-designated place (CDP). The census definition of the area may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the area with the same name. State Route 33 (SR 33) is a north–south state highway in the U.S. state of California. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
