Cascadia is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) that was established in 1892 on the South Santiam River, east of the current city of Sweet Home, in Linn County, Oregon, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 147. Originally a stage stop on the Santiam Wagon Road, then a summer resort also known as Cascadia Mineral Springs, Cascadia had a post office established in 1898. It maintains a ZIP code of 97329. The resort had a hotel established by George Geisendorfer, who was also the first postmaster. People were attracted to Cascadia because of its mineral spring water. The property was sold to the state in 1940 and now is the site of the Cascadia State Park. Santiam Wagon Road
The Santiam Wagon Road was a freight route in the U.S. state of Oregon between the Willamette Valley and Central Oregon regions from 1865 to the 1930s. It is considered one of the most important historical routes in the state. Officially known as the Willamette Valley and Cascade Mountain Wagon Road, the Santiam Wagon Road was built between 1861 and 1868 and operated as a toll road until 1915. In 1925, the road was turned over to the State of Oregon for use as a highway. U.S. Route 20 closely follows the original route of the wagon road. Cascadia State Park
Cascadia State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Oregon near Sweet Home along the South Santiam River at Cascadia. The park includes a day use area, campsites, hiking trails and 150 foot Lower Soda Creek Falls. History Prior to settlers arriving, groups from the Molalla and Kalapuya tribes visited the park site to harvest huckleberries, fish and hunt. Cascadia Cave is nearby. The cave is an 8,000-year-old American Indian petroglyph site considered to have the largest concentration of rock engravings in western Oregon. Willamette Valley settlers developed a bypass at the park site for horse-drawn wagons. Old wagon ruts are still visible near where Soda Creek meets the South Santiam River.
