The Casa del Arte José Clemente Orozco (more commonly known simply as the Casa del Arte, "House of Art" or Pinacoteco, "Art Gallery") is a Chilean art museum on the campus of the University of Concepción, in Concepción, Chile, Concepción. It is situated on the corner of Chacabuco and Larenas, facing the Plaza Perú (Concepción), Plaza Perú. The gallery attracts approximately 75,000 visitors a year and houses the country's largest collection of paintings outside the capital city of Santiago, and the most complete collection of Chilean art with some 1,800 works. One of its main features is the mural ''Presencia de América Latina'' (1964) by the Mexican artist Jorge González Camarena, which is in the entrance hall. ''Presencia de América Latina'' (''Presence of Latin America''), also known as ''Integración de América Latina'' (''Integration of Latin America'') is a mural painted by Mexican artist Jorge González Camarena between November 1964 and April 1965. The 300-square-meter mural, painted in acrylics on rough stucco, is located in the lobby of the ''Casa del Arte'' of the University of Concepción (''Ciudad Universitaria de Concepción''), in Concepción, Chile. Its principal theme is the unity and brotherhood of the different Latin American cultures. Description and interpretation Structure of the mural The mural is divided into three parts: a flat, central panel measuring 20 by 6 meters, and two sides panels set off at oblique angles to the central part. Each panel measures 7.6 by 6 meters. The mural as a whole is 211.2 m². Jorge Délano Frederick (December 4, 1895 - July 9, 1980) was a Chilean cartoonist, screenwriter, film director, and actor. Marta Colvin
Marta Colvin Andrade (1907–1995) was a sculptor from Chillán, Chile. Biography Marta Colvin Andrade was the daughter of James Colvin of Irish descent and Elvira Andrade of Portuguese descent. After the 1939 Chillán earthquake, she lived in Santiago, Chile, and studied at the School of Arts. In 1943 she was appointed assistant professor from the sculpture workshop of Julio A. Vasquez and master Lorenzo Domínguez and was officially appointed Professor in 1950. In 1948 she attended the Grande Chaumiere Academie in Paris with masters Ossian Zadkine and Henry Laurens. She went on to live in France for more than thirty years. In 1965 she took part in the first Sao Paulo Biennale. She was known worldwide and awarded the National Art Prize in 1970 in recognition of her works. She died in Santiago on 27 October 1995. Generación del 13 (Generación del Trece; The 13 Generation) was Chile's first painter collective. Its name derives from the year 1913, after a joint exhibition was held at the ''Salon'' of the Chilean newspaper ''El Mercurio'' in the preceding year. The group and its work are characterized by a fascination with Creole art and customs, social criticism, and portrayal of the proletariat, a subject that hitherto was not depicted in Chilean art. History At the beginning of the 20th century, alongside the celebration of the first 100 years of independence, Chile experienced a period where art began to be more widely appreciated by many people (among the upper classes, at least). There was a rush to beautify Chile's cities, although the influx of thousands of rural people to the cities in search of work, social problems were increasing.
