Allan Carswell
Allan Ian Carswell, CM, FRSC (born 1933) is a physicist and researcher in the field of laser radar (lidar) applications. Carswell has been actively engaged in the study of the properties and applications of lasers and coherent optical frequency radiation since 1963. He was a member of the Plasma Physics Laboratory at the RCA Victor Research Laboratories in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, studying electromagnetic waves with ionized gas systems. In 1965, Carswell was appointed Director of the RCA Optical and Microwave Research Laboratory, and led the group there that developed the first laser in Canada and the first Canadian commercial HeNe laser. Carswell was a Professor of Physics at Toronto, Ontario, Canada's York University, where he conducted laser research. Stuart Carswell (born 9 September 1993) is a Scottish professional footballer, who plays as a midfielder for Scottish League Two side Dumbarton. Carswell has previously played for Motherwell, St Mirren, as well as Icelandic side Keflavík. Carswell Air Force Base is a former United States Air Force (USAF) base, located northwest of Fort Worth, Texas. For most of its operational lifetime, the base's mission was to train and support heavy strategic bombing groups and wings. Carswell was a major Strategic Air Command (SAC) base during the Cold War. It was the headquarters of several SAC intercontinental bombardment wings, equipped with the latest heavy bombers from B-29 Superfortresses; B-36 Peacemakers and B-52 Stratofortresses. Carswell Crater
Carswell is an impact crater within the Athabasca Basin of the Canadian Shield in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. It is in diameter and the age is estimated to be 115 ± 10 million years (Lower Cretaceous). The crater is exposed at the surface. Access The Carswell Crater can be reached by Saskatchewan Highway 955. The gravel road begins in the village of La Loche and ends at the old Cluff Lake mine site within the crater. The Cluff Lake uranium mine produced over 62 million pounds of yellowcake during its 22-year operating life. Since the mine is now closed and decommissioned, there are no travel services in the vicinity and no functional airstrip. Motorists driving to the crater need to carry sufficient fuel and supplies for the round trip back to La Loche. John Wilson Carswell (born 1937) is a Scottish physician who was one of the first medical researchers to identify HIV/AIDS in Uganda. He graduated from the King's College London with an MBBS in 1961, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1967. He worked as a consultant surgeon at Mulago Hospital, Kampala from 1968 to 1987 where he became a leading AIDS researcher in the country. He later served as medical advisor to the Government of South Africa, and worked in public health in the United States and Asia. Catherine Roxburgh Carswell (née Macfarlane; 27 March 1879 – 18 February 1946) was a Scottish author, biographer and journalist, now known as one of the few women to take part in the Scottish Renaissance.
